About Me

Hey everyone!
I'm Nicolas. Born in Colombia, raised in Ecuador, and currently living in Australia, I have traveled to several places, but this is my first time on couchsurfing.

I'm an Engineer and Im currently doing my PhD in Cairns - Australia. My wife and I love to travel, meet new people and share experiences.

Originally from Ecuador, we are entrepreneurs and we have had the opportunity to travel to different places in South and North America, Africa, Europe, Asia and now, Australia.
We are an easy going couple, respectful and mindful with other people's things and places. We don't party very much, but we do like to know the cities' vibe during the day and the night.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Travel is the best teacher... considering there are so many things to learn and see and do, its a waste of time no to go out and see the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music wise, I am not picky, but I mostly listen to dance, edm, rock 'n roll, and (of course) 80's classics.

I don't watch much tv or movies, but I do enjoy documentaries of all sorts: sports, nature, technology, science, social sciences...

I'm currently reading Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy, which I'm enjoying very much.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When traveling in South Africa we had the change to go cage-diving with the white sharks in Gaansbai.
Its an experience I would greatly recommend to everyone... although the water is freezing cold, and waves can be rough, its a once-in-a-lifetime experience and not easily forgotten.
If you are planning on doing this here are some tips:
- have some sea-sickness pills the night before and during the day
- don't eat breakfast (sea is very rough)
- bring a towel (and a way to keep it dry)
- bring a jacket (it will be cold).

Teach, Learn, Share

I used to be a lecturer at a university in Ecuador before I moved to Australia... so I love teaching. But teaching is not only about talking in a class, its also about sharing other knowledge, like best places to visit, when and how...

Being a PhD student can read like 'Nerd'... but its not really like that... its about curiosity and learning (not studying, I hate studying... but love to learn new things).

Whatever knowledge I can share, I will share... just ask.

What I Can Share with Hosts

although my cooking skills need to be improved, I'll try to share a little bit of the Ecuadorian and Colombian cuisine with you...
If you have a bike (bicycle) thats giving you trouble, ill do my best to repair it!
