About Me
Hi, I’m Nic from Melbourne, Australia and I really like the sound of someone making a cup of tea. Like the bubbling of a kettle, the sloshing of hot water into a mug, and then the clinking of a spoon as it stirs the brew. So satisfying. Also, the sound of someone typing on a keyboard in a quiet library. Tap tap tap. Tap tap tap. Taptaptapataptapapatap. Tap tap. Tap. It’s the sound of someone on a roll.
So, a bit about me.
I’m currently travelling around the US, after spending some time in China and Japan. I’m very easy going so my style is less ‘plan every detail’ and more ‘let’s see what happens’. Along the way I hope to meet interesting people and try new things (would you believe it?!). Anyway, CS is such a good way to do it.
I’m travelling for 5-6 months, doing a mix of CS, staying with friends and the occasional hostel across the US. I’m grateful to anyone who would like to open their place to me as a surfer and share their neighbourhood and their story. I’d prefer to spend money shouting my host a round of beers or a meal than spending a night in a dirty, budget hostel.
How do I spend my time? I love reading a good book in a good cafe (or pub, of course). Or taking a long stroll with headphones on (usually listening to techno, house or a podcast). I’m a freelance copywriter too, so my laptop is usually never far away. Tap tap. Tap tap tap.
I’m also mostly into vegan/vegetarian food, though I’ve decided not to be too fussy while I’m travelling. If that’s your thing too, I’d love to hear about tips for around town or about a favourite recipe. I have a vegan choc cake recipe that’s super legit and dead easy to make.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I surfed a little a few years ago when I was in the US last and had such a great time. My hosts were fun and generous, so I try to give back as a surfer if I can.
Interests
I ran a Meetup back in Melbourne for content professionals, like copywriters, UX writers, bloggers, and content strategists. I’m ready to swap what I know with what you know :)
I’m also into tech, UX, and some politics.

Music, Movies, and Books
I mostly listen to techno and house, but I’m really into anything that’s a bit weird or a bit funky. Not so into pop music so my karaoke skills are barely passable. I try though.
I tend to read a lot of non-fiction. My favourite book recently was Sticky Fingers, a bio about Jann Wenner (founder and editor of Rolling Stone magazine). I need to get into more fiction though.
I love watching movies but I’m not a buff. And I’m not so much into Netflix or TV, I prefer going to a cinema. There’s nothing like some popcorn and the silver screen!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Motorcycling trip in India. Very unplanned, and in hindsight, slightly dangerous (I can drive a car. Motorcycle... not so much). But it was one of the best things I’ve done. Or at least the most memorable.
Teach, Learn, Share
I want to learn to code (yes, I have an app idea... help!).
And for the writers out there, I could spend an hour talking about dashes. Personally — I prefer the en dash.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Need help editing a website? Or maybe some proofreading on a blog post? Feedback on a CV? Happy to give it a look over.
I’m not much of a handyman but I can help out with chores if I can. I’m tall, which is super handy for changing lightbulbs.
