About Me

Hi there, I'm a young 30 something year old outdoors instructor.

I'm qualified or qualifying in various outdoors pursuits, but most importantly to me, I'm a Mountain Leader.

I can legally drive a minibus with a trailer for reward too! I live in South Wales to be closer to family and the Mountains.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Initially, I was looking for somewhere to stay when I traveled the UK looking for Quality Mountain Days (an official term) but actually, I enjoy wild camping and each night I spend being self-sufficient in the wild under canvas, counts towards one of my qualifications.

I heard that a friend of mine was running local walks for people staying in the area and realized that I could be offering walks in the mountainous areas of Britain with my expertise.

Interests

I love spending time in the British mountainous terrain, all over the Isles. I enjoy walking over them, sometimes camping wild, mostly using campsites with proper facilities. Our mountains may not be as tall as others but I believe they can still deliver a beautiful and exciting or even a serene day out.

I get a buzz out of showing people new things, perhaps they have never been into the British mountains before, perhaps they have not experienced the full effects of the weather here. Perhaps they didn't know that the ancient people living here used wild Hard Rush as wicks in their Tallow candles, they might discover these things and more on a hike with me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I know what I don't like. I do not like Meatloaf, I am not a fan of teen comedy and tend to be slack on reading historical books unfortunately because I have started to really enjoy history now I am a little older.

Music is a tough one, I grew up listening avidly to John Peel and his eclectic sessions. I had no idea there were genera outside of Classical, Top of the Pops and John Peel! I love beats, electronica, IDM and Ambient, though I'm not adverse to Jethro Tull, Blur, Prefab Sprout or Fleetwood Mac.

I enjoy paradigm shifting works of film-art. We have all seen the Matrix by now, and probably Fight Club, but what about Lathe of Heaven or Memento?

Books, wow, books. I have to think here a moment. I suppose I could categorize as fantasy fiction like Robin Hob's Farseer Trilogy, but these days I'm reading a lot of developmental psychology books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once, at band camp...

No, um, well, I used to be a Medieval Reenactor, and I left a 15 year successful career in IT to work in the outdoors leisure and education industry.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to educate people on how to travel in the British mountains safely and comfortably.

I would love to meet other people qualified or qualifying in the outdoor industry.

I want to share my outdoor experiences with others who are curious and interested in life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm not sure, I think I'll need to read a few more bios before I complete this area, bit I've traveled a lot in a self build campervan, I'm sure there are some stories to tell...
