我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I am traveling 3 months in Japan (April-June 2019) and a friend recommended Couchsurfing as a great way to meet and engage with people.

I have always enjoyed hiking as a good way to socialize informally with people you meet. When hiking alone or with a friend you'll often meet people along your path and often your destination turns out to be the same hostel or cabin. Even though you spend most of the day traveling alone or in pairs, the evenings in a hostel or cabin can be really nice improvised and informal gatherings and a great chance to chat with hikers from all over the world. I thought perhaps Couchsurfing could be a bit of the same - just without the hiking ;).

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I volunteered to serve six months as crew and navigator on a small navy survey vessel that was charting the coast of Greenland. Climbing small mountains to place positioning stations, doing echo soundings to find underwater hazards to ships, living as part of a crew of six, experiencing the most barren and beautiful nature, storms and icebergs, and the most clear star field of any night time sky I have ever seen - and the aurora borealis...

Teaching is what I do for a living - it is also an important part of who I am.

Learning is what I try to do every day and at every new meeting.

Sharing a burden makes it less heavy and sharing joys makes your heart lighter :)
