About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Biking to Greece and buying up all their debt

ABOUT ME

hello, my name is Chris. I went to school for quite a long time only to figure that I have hardly learned anything relevant for life. Yet, I have learned that in school you don't really learn much relevant things. I probably wouldn't have learned that if I hadn't gone to school for such a long time. So, in the end it was a good thing, like all things in life are good things, in particular if you thought that they were actually bad to start with.

Maybe some general stuff:
Studied economics with a focus on economics of illegal markets, drug prices and crime - you see: the bad stuff :) started to work at the pricing department of the Swiss federal railway, trying to lower the prices, didn't succeed, found out that after all I rather do something useful that humanity can really profit from and became a part time artist. Realizing that for humanity to take the next step I might need to become a full time artist, quit my job at the pricing department and here I am.

Maybe some personal stuff:
I like to be creative, think outside of the box, sometimes way outside straight into absurdity. Yet, just as much i need to use my hands, fixing things, creating things, destroying things, creating new things. I need to be outside a lot in the nature, not a huge fan of big cities. I have a weak emotional filter, so big cities with tons of people tend to wear me out quickly. I like to be in motion, yet not too fast. I don't like airplanes and cars, yet bikes and trains (if they go really slow). I like animals (they don't judge you) and even people (I know, they judge you). I was in prison once. Na, just a joke - Yet, Sigmund Freud used to say that there is no such a thing as a joke. And most importantly, I really love trees. I'm thinking of becoming a woodsman just that in my region no trees will be killed anymore.

PHILOSOPHY

it's about the little things

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I'm at home and don't travel myself, why not bring the travel straight into my home? I gladly provide a place to stay to anyone who is in need of some hospitality. However, if you are just in need of a place to crash, you may be better off using the hostel next door. I can take you for a swim in the nearby river or bring you along to some of the sports/arts I do. Cooking/eating together is naturally always option :)
On the road I enjoy the company of locals way more than the one of tourists. They bring a different perspective and make you more aware of the cultural surroundings. It's a way more interesting, enriching, and personal experience than staying in a hotel or a hostel.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Fantastic....I've never had any bad experiences and I was lucky enough to meet a couple of very interesting people that I'm still in touch with. However, I recently started to get a lot of impersonal requests. I decided no to reply to these request anymore. Hence, my reply rate kind of sucks. You may take this into account before writing to me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sharing my sandwich with an old Indian lady without each of us getting a single word we were talking to each other, yet at the same time completely understanding each other....

Laughing so hard that I had muscle sore for two days running... Humor is still the best sport out there

Teach, Learn, Share

Since I am an economist I should be able tell you something about how "the system" works. In addition to this, and more importantly, I may tell you how to screw it.

Besides that kind of crap, I would be much more pleased to share some useful knowledge with you, such as farting without actually farting, or imitating other accents and animal noises.

I want to learn how to sing. When I was a little boy, I used to love to sing. In class, my passionate singing was second to none until the point we were handed out marks for our performance. Unfortunately, my teacher had a very different opinion regarding my singing skills than I had. The consequential evaluation put a serious dent into my confidence and I never sang again. Then after 10 years without singing I decided to combat my trauma and started to take singing lesson. I made some strides and even joined a male chorus, average age: 75. After one year they kicked me out, stating I'm singing too badly. That's maybe a sad story, yet also funny somehow :)
