About Me

UPDATE August 2021: Wow, what a rough year and a half! I moved to Melbourne, Australia with a working holiday visa with hopes to settle there for a couple of years. Ended up having to leave after a few months as covid hit. I've spent the past year in Hungary working remotely since then, slowly gaining back control over my life. Finally I am looking forward and not back, searching for new purpose and direction :) Looking forward to meeting new people and travelling again!

Update July 2019: Well I moved out of Luxembourg years ago but I left my profile like that because... it's cool. Ha. And I haven't really had a permanent base since then anyway.

CURRENT MISSION

I'm more and more interested in a minimalist and zero waste lifestyle. When I was travelling through the Andes I realized how beautiful this world is and how human activity is destroying it. I realized that the only thing that makes sense is to take action against it. I'm just learning but I'd love to share ideas about it with others.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm convinced that with every single person you meet, your personality becomes richer. You get to know new cultures, ideas, perspectives. And even a little bit of these can be life changing for you. Now I'm collecting experience :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like meeting people to spend time over a meal or drink, and I'm also glad to give information and show people around in the places I'm familiar with (Luxembourg and some parts of Hungary, South America).
I always read profiles and only contact hosts when I feel we can function well together. So far, it's worked :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've met a lot of people through couchsurfing, from hangouts, surfing and events. I have created a sightseeing event walking around Budapest which was very successful :) Now I live in a small apartment with 3 other people and don't have space for hosting, but I hope I'll be able to host in the future.

Interests

I like enjoying little simple moments :) I'm definitely not the kind of person who spends money on useless stuff. Sometimes I'm just happy to walk down a street in a new city and experience it with all senses. I don't need much more than that :)

I'm (almost) a gluten-free vegan by accident - I started out as a vegetarian as a child (I genuinely don't like the taste of meat), and a few years ago I developed some intolerance to dairy and gluten which you can guess I'm not too happy about 😅 A small amount of any of these is ok, but I try my best to avoid them whenever I can. I just buy my own food and be prepared even if it's a group dinner/etc, and hoping that with some lifestyle changes my intolerance will go away (I'm working on it).

I'm collecting coins from different countries, so if you have something interesting, maybe we can swap :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: usually I pick songs that I like either because of the melody, because they are funny or because I have special memories connected to them. These can range from heavy metal to today's hits, from folk music to movie soundtracks or even videogame soundtracks.

Films: Among the big ones, e.g. Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.
There are so many more that are brilliant but not internationally known. A favourite is Revival, a Czech film I saw at a film festival :)
Requisitos para ser una persona normal - it's a cute Spanish film I saw on my flight towards South America and I can't even count how many times I've seen it. It mirrors my own life in so many ways.
I like old Hungarian films from the 1930s and 40s. The plot and the dialogues are so well written that you really don't need more visually than black-and-white.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I cannot mention just one...
- Experiencing "midnight in Paris" with friends, sitting under the Eiffel tower at 00:00.
- Seeing the perfect sunset at the Dutch coast :)
- No sunset in the north of Norway at all in June. Ended up walking around at 2 am which felt like early evening
- Walking among reindeers in Tromso
- Volunteering in Vietnam in 5 different locations, from Ho Chi Minh city to Sapa :)
- Bought a one way ticket to South America in May 2017 and spent there 10 months backpacking and volunteering in hostels. The best time of my life and I can't wait to do something similar again :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I've worked in my family's enterprise (flower shop). I know how to grow flowers in greenhouses and how to make flower decorations.
Besides, I'm also a teacher of English and German, and my native language is Hungarian.
I used to do folk dancing and I think I can still teach a few steps :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Keeping the place tidy, cooking together, giving travel tips and some pálinka. Some people say I look reserved first, but it doesn't last for a long time, or it doesn't happen at all.
