About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To experience the world as much as I can before life catches up with me.

ABOUT ME

I used couchsurfing 10 years ago to learn all about Life in Europe, and meet so many amazing people. After a few years of staying put because of COVID, I am traveling a bit for the winter until I start working again in a few months.

Even though I am a homebody, I love trying new things and experiencing the culture of the place I am visiting. I really enjoy being outdoors and love any chance to get into nature.

I enjoy hiking, taking walks, cycling, learning cultures and languages, coding, vegetarian and vegan cooking, adventures, chill days, getting lost, sharing stories, trying something new. The thing that makes me happy most is being outdoors.

I do not drink anymore but am ok being around people who are drinking, as long as it's not a wild party situation going on. I'm happy to hang out with an NA beer or mocktail, or something more simple than that.

In the past I was involved with local environmental and social justice issues and activism. After that I started working in national parks across the United States (in New York state, New Mexico, and Maine), and now I do that as well as freelance web development work to supplement my income.

PHILOSOPHY

You only live life once so don't let it pass you by, everything in moderation, it's nice to be important but more important to be nice.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My first surfing experience was during a road trip across the USA with my boyfriend at the time. It is difficult for me to host due to my living situation, but I was able to host one of my CS hosts when she came to my neck of the world, which was a great experience. In 2013 I spent 3&1/2 months traveling around the UK and Europe and I used couchsurfing to meet people, learn about different cultures, and experience life in another part of the world. After that I stayed with a few hosts in Mexico City and still keep in touch with those hosts, I even met up with one in Hong Kong!

I am currently traveling around the UK, Ireland, and Iceland, and am hoping to connect with some locals to learn about life in those places and meet new people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have mostly surfed so far but the people I have stayed with have always been so welcoming and wonderful. Their kindness has inspired me to pay it forward.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Harry Potter, Angels And Demons, Time Traveler's Wife, Fahrenheit 451, Handmaid's Tale.. I have a long list of books I have yet to read, and am always looking for suggestions.

Movies and TV: Back To The Future, Doctor Who, too much Netflix

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going scuba diving in Hawaii and seeing the Milky Way for the first time are two experiences that have probably left me the most awestruck. My now ex and I crewed for Race Across America in 2013, a bicycle race from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD in ~12 days, which was definitely an experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love learning so much, especially from people who love to share their stories. I especially enjoy learning how to cook and I am currently trying to improve my Spanish skills. I have a background in biology. I can teach you some stuff about nature (maybe geology or plants), and if the stars are out I can show you some constellations and teach you how to find the north star. I am super interested in space and would love to learn more about what goes on out there...
