About Me

I'm Nik. I'm a bigender(He/She) person living in Belgrade, Serbia, and I'm a freelance worker doing comics, design, illustration, video editing and animation.

I'm a run of the mill geek who also has a special interest in pop music, skateboarding, the demoscene, internet culture, queer culture and sexuality. I am *obsessed* with British culture and the 1960s, so much that I made it the subject of one of my comics. I'm the biggest Beatles fan you will ever meet, and I also love other British groups of that era and Britpop bands like Oasis.

Social issues such as human rights, equity, freedom, healthcare, democracy, pollution, and climate change are important to me. We can not jive if you oppose LGBTQ+ rights and systems that harm and oppress other people.

In time I'll probably be able to host people myself, but for now I need to travel. If you host me and we happen to jive I can absolutely promise you'll have a place to stay in if you ever wanna visit Belgrade.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I opened up Couchsurfing way back in 2012 just to see what it looks like but I haven't used it. I've only now actually decided to use it in summer 2022.

I'm poor, young, and I wanna travel and see the world and attend distant events, mostly demoparties, sights, sexual workshops, and friends around the world. Despite me being proud of my work and job, I'm really just not confident I will ever amass money enough to pay for my stays, and it frequently astounds me just how steep some prices are for staying in many hotels and hostels. My aim is to work on my laptop as I travel in order to make money, and I travel around with nothing but a skateboard and my backpack.

I'm also going through a difficult period in my life so I need the luxury of being frugal for myself and only caring for very basic needs: I want to save all of my money on just traveling costs and food.

My biggest dream destination is the UK. If I ever make it there, I wanna truly try to get out of the most of the time there that I can and I wanna spend at least a couple of months there.

Interests

I talk about some of my favourite media below.

Being a comic artist is my life-long dream and is something I delegate the most of my energy to. I listen to music to fuel me through life and give me energy and I watch films mostly out of historical curiosity. Anime and video games are there for just cosy and fun vibes and when I need genuine relaxation. I like video games that emphasise story, moods and subjective experiences. My favourite games are Final Fantasy VII, Half-Life and Syberia.

Among some recent interests I've taken a liking to the demoscene, an kind of programming art that is being presented in annual festivals called 'demoparties', and they are just the greatest, and the most beautiful artistic subculture nobody knows about. Also recently I've taken on skateboarding very late in life because people like Tony Hawk and Rodney Mullen are my childhood heroes.

My current topic of interest is sexual studies, sexuality and kink. Sexual exploration is a personal journey for me that I've started very late in life because I grew up in a really repressive family, and now I want to discover it because I want to make up for most of my life that I didn't have access to it.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite band is Oasis, who always champion boundless energy, optimism and will to life. Other favourite bands are The Beatles, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, The Kinks, The Olivia Tremor Control, Unwound, and artists like Ty Segall, John Fahey and Scott Walker. I like all sorts of music but if you were to pick my favourites, you won't go wrong with any kind of Britpop, 60s, psychedelic, or house music.

My favourite film is "The Knack and How to Get It" 1965 from "A Hard Day's Night" director Richard Lester, who did a great job showing the Swinging 60s London in these two films. I also really love the films of Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchock, Billy Wilder and Fritz Lang. I tend to like old movies.

I read comics much more than I read books. My favourite comics are Watamote, Berserk, Spirou et Fantasio, and for reading I enjoy the fantasy ficiton of Tolkien and Michael Moorcock, and biographical/historical books. My favourite novel is "Naiv. Super." by Erlend Loe.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I managed to heckle one ultranationalist presidential candidate at a book signing. I confronted him with the issues of gender and honestly the only thing I really wanted to do was to be a nuissance to him as much as possible, and mockingly plead him if he'll ever make Serbia recognise nobinary gender identities. It took a lot of balls to do this, and I'm still amazed I wasn't hunted down for this, lol

Teach, Learn, Share

If you wanna learn how to draw comics or animate, I'm your girl. I can also tell you everything you wanna hear about the Beatles or many other significant music artists from history, or the demoscene, or how to make healthy no-grains food for people suffering with Inflamatory Bowel Diseases(like me). I'm a really bad skater, but I can at the very least teach you how to ride a board and use it for general transport.

I think by far the best thing I can offer is a large bank of really good films, music, anime and video games that I have in memory, but that's a pretty common commodity so I doubt it's really hot anymore.

If I ever arrive in your place, the most I'd love to learn would be your country's history and the most important sites and spots you have in your town. If you know some good spots for dating that aren't too loud and intense, or kink meetups, I'd appreciate it, too.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Honestly not much other than my company and my life advice and really good music and anime. I can also cook and clean for myself and help with housework if necessary, since I'm a bit of a neat freak. I'm honestly very young and not at all fit to dispense some great skills, gifts or wisdom, but I'd love to see what connection I can establish with every person I meet. Be happy to see you!
