About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

I come from a small town of Odry where I still have my permanent address. After studying Japanese and English for two years in Olomouc, I quit the uni and went for a hitchhiking trip to Spain and later that year I moved to the UK to work. I stayed there for three years working mostly in construction (Manchester, Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool) and got some long-needed life experience. Then I spent four months in Lyon dusting off my French and returned to my country in 2009 to study again this time in Prague.

I'm badly short-sighted so don't be surprised if I don't spot you from a normal distance!

Physical description aside, I'm a timid person by nature but through life experience I have become less frightened by the world:) I feel more confident when speaking English rather than my mother tongue, strange, isn't it? Lack of connotations and psychological constraint, I guess.

I'm more of a listener who can add a thought or two into any discussion and develop it a bit further or tell you bluntly that what you are telling me sounds like bullshit (or not convincing if we're not on familiar terms).

I don't consider myself a great narrator, I get lost in the details and forget the main plot :)

When I have nothing to say, I keep my mouth shut (unless tipsy).

I can be rather critical and disregard the good things an experience brings. This is probably the worst trait of my character but I'm trying to keep the moaning to myself, it's a matter of a point of view, after all.

PHILOSOPHY

"Live the life you love

Love the life you live

Everything you have in mind Jah will give"

is the one I like the most, but rarely follow it.

I live a constant struggle between what I should be doing and what I want to do, so striking a balace will make my life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Creating events that nobody goes to:)

Taking part in events others go to.

Going for a drink with fellow CSers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Mostly online or events within Prague. Haven't surfed or hosted yet (not that I haven't tried but it's difficult to get a couch immediately on the spot).

Interests

Music: Jamaican music in particular: anything with a good bassline or horns and sensible lyrics. I like slower bass-driven music like dubstep or grime when I go out. I also enjoy jazz and blues, any music, in fact, as long as it has heart and soul.

Sport - hiking in the mountains, cycling, tennis - if I'm lucky enough to find someone to play with; running around, occasional juggling

Current Affairs - reading the papers, listening to the radio (when I was in the UK, not so fond of the Czech media)

West-African drumming - I'm not super talented, but I enjoy tackling these intricate African rhythms.

Foreign languages, especially their various sounds.

Living abroad.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Hobbit - J.R.R Tolkien (in a lovely Czech translation)
Etranger - Albert Camus
Farewell To Arms - Ernest Hemingway

Apocalypse Now (Redux)
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Basquiat
Hospital - Frederick Wiseman
Marketa Lazarova
Deer Hunter

This is a random selection, I don't have particular favourites, films that would leave a huge mark on me. It applies to books, too. I've always been more into non-fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitchhiking from my country to Spain and back one summer. 2 months on the road, sleeping rough most of the time. Ordinary for some, unthinkable for others.

Teach, Learn, Share

French, English or Czech. Phonetics. Hiragana, Katakana (would have to dust off some of my knowledge) and a few Japanese characters:o) Basics of playing didgeridoo + circular breathing. Basics of West-African drumming.

Countries I’ve Visited

Andorra, France, Greece, Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Czech Republic, France, United Kingdom
