About Me

I am a treasure-seeker...

a hands in the earth type. a head in the sky type. I am interested in everything, and rarely bored. I trade in tree poems. I like people in all their variety and enjoy sharing with them the serious things, the silly things and the silence of life. I think that hosting or being hosted is one way of making this happen.

For my livelihood I teach and research in a university - I am a 'geographer'. But I'm even more passionate about informal learning - popular education, collective journeys, resources for empowering ourselves. I try to keep plenty of space for other ventures too, from the silly and spontaneous to the more serious (like trying to keep a charity afloat)

I also work with asylum seekers refugees and other people without papers and i feel rather passionate about becoming a world in which all of us who choose to move are made welcome.

PHILOSOPHY

practise the art of being fully present

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I think hospitality is a powerful way to agree to being changed. In a world that is journeying toward being more liveable I think that generous hosting and learning to be a good guest are essential elements.
It's also really great to work out how to share our resources for free.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

lots of people have stayed with me over time and i with them. introduced to couch-surfing accidentally hosting a couch-surfer i'd met in a hostel up north. have stayed with cs people in calais and on many other couches.

Music, Movies, and Books

Tolstoy, Anna Karenina; Oscar and Lucinda, Peter Carey; Russian literature in general; POETRY, in many languages, especially Neruda, Lorca, e.e. cummings, Ted Hughes, Olav Hauge ... all sorts of music that provokes the heart and feet and mind - folky, balkan gypsy jazz, classical, modern classical, electronic, spontaneous and improvisational music...

Teach, Learn, Share

My main research themes are the politics of food and politics of land and I am very happy to exchange some clues about these things. however in terms of education i'm passionate about lifelong communities of learning, university outside the institution, creating ways of educating ourselves for more liveable worlds. I'd love to learn more about these things from others.

I can also share cooking, baking, linguistic experience and teach you to turn a cartwheel...
