Overview
About Me
My boyfriend and I are chasing summers - spending 6 months of each year in Europe and the other 6 months in New Zealand. He's a professional tandem paraglider pilot and I'm in the process of becoming one. We're currently based near Oberstdorf in the Bavarian Alps.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm about to travel to Switzerland to complete a paragliding acrobatics and safety course in Buochs. As I'll only be in Switzerland for a few days I'd love to meet a local or two and find out more about the country! I'm travelling with my campervan so am just as happy with a driveway to park in as with a couch to crash on :)

Music, Movies, and Books
I listen to a lot of music from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Generally speaking I enjoy independently produced music, anything with decent lyrics, bass line, or melody. At the moment I'm listening to a lot of Of Montreal and SAFIA. I used to be a radio host on student radio at university so I got used to some pretty alternative stuff!
For movies I like animated (Disney/Pixar/Ghibli) and any story that involves an underdog turning their life around. I do like some others as well though - my all-time favourite movie is Lord of War.
I love to read and have my old favourites like Harry Potter, but nowadays I mostly read non-fiction. I particularly enjoy biographies and the works of Oliver Sacks. There's a biography about him coming out next year which I'm very excited about! A combination of my two favourites :)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My boyfriend and I hiked up Mount Rinjani in Indonesia with a couple of ancient paragliders we borrowed from the local pilots. We hiked 1600 vertical metres with 20kg each on our backs, slept for 5 hours, hiked another 1000 vertical metres, then flew from the summit at sunrise. We made it from the bottom of the volcano to the summit then back to the village in less than 24 hours! It was quite an adventure :)
Teach, Learn, Share
I can talk about paragliding for hours if you're interested! I can also teach basic acroyoga as that's an activity I enjoy and am fairly good at. And of course I love to share stories about New Zealand and hear stories from hosts about their countries and their stories!
