About Me

*Have an empty room, no couch, no bed, but you are welcome to request*

Hello! My name is Nina and I've just finished undergrad at the University of Texas where I earned a B.S. in Biology with a minor in French and a B.A. in Plan II (liberal arts program) and hope to one day attend medical school. I am currently working as a media assistant for a small business.

I have couchsurfed twice in my life and am looking to host maybe 1 or 2 people to give back to couchsurfing. I am limited by my roommates and my schedule, but please feel free to ask as I would love to host if it fits what I can offer!

I first discovered couchsurfing while studying abroad in Australia during college. While I didn't stay with anyone at that time, I created my profile and kept an eye on it. I then spent a summer living in Germany and was graciously hosted in Berlin and Dresden. I really loved being hosted in Berlin because I had already visited the city before and stayed in a hostel, but I wanted to try to stay with an individual for my second weekend visit. My host was fantastic, brought me breakfast, talked to me about all odds and ends, and showed my Berlin's nightlife that I would've never found on my own. That was when I really fell in love with the idea of couchsurfing!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing because I plan to explore the world as much as I possibly can within the next few years and want to help other people doing the same!

update 2016: I have lived in Australia (5mo) and Germany (2mo).
update 2018: I am hoping to move to Spain for half a year in 2019.

Interests

I like learning anything I can, finding local/historical things to do, sharing fun facts, and being outdoors. I am very interested in animals and finding native wildlife and I'm also interesting in learning how to use native plants for everyday life. The highlight of my trips usually involves seeing some animal I have never seen outside of a zoo living its life in the wild (kangaroos in Australia were wild, hedgehogs in Germany!). I am always looking for someone who also considers themselves a naturalist.

I also love playing soccer and cycling. I played quidditch for a couple of months and that was good time. Would love to learn more about rock climbing. Currently boulder at a local gym but have never done climbing outside.
update 2019: I now climb outside and can belay, hmu!

Music, Movies, and Books

I've played the cello for 8 years and would like to pick up guitar.

Off the top of my head, I'm a fan of Queen, Years and Years, The Head and the Heart, Beyonce, Of Monster and Men, Dvorak, Elton John, The Mowglis, and David Bowie. While visiting new places, I like to listen to local music or hit up a jazz bar.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Accidentally swam with a wild manta ray!
Rode a bicycle from Texas to Alaska!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you about vague American things, like political sentiments or how true the media portrayals of us are. Back in Texas, I can show you a ton of cool places to explore (I even have a powerpoint with pictures so hmu if you need Texas travel advice!!) and teach you about a lot of our native plants and wildlife!

I used to offer to make tacos for people abroad, but have found that most places do not have the ingredients needed to make tacos. I couldn't find a single can of black beans at any of the supermarkets while in Germany. Nor tortillas.

It was also a blast trying to make s'mores for Australians as no one knew what a graham cracker was.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I just like talking, honestly. I can't cook a delicious meal for you, I can't make art for you, I can't play music for you. But I can speak English really, really well and about nearly anything. So if you'd just like company or an American perspective or maybe travel advice for Australia then I can share with you my world!

Countries I've been in, but would not say "visited":
Czech Republic (Prague)
Italy (Bologna)
