About Me

Hello there!
I'm Nina and I love to explore the world. I have visited 40+ countries (many multiple times) on all continents except Antarctica and lived in Europe, USA, mainland China and am currently located in HK. I realized that while sightseeing is nice, I mainly travel for the people. I love to explore the local culture and the time I spend with locals and other travellers are always the highlights of my trip. I am very easy-going and open to try pretty much everything. I have a very wide range of interest, love to learn new things and enjoy big and small discussions about everything in life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I used to be a host and while I can't currently have people stay over, I still love to meet others to show them around. If you want to meetup feel free to send me a message! I also throughly enjoy meeting locals when I am travelling myself as I feel that's the best way to get a feel of the real place away from tourist traps. I attended multiple cs meetings and parties all over the world as well.
I Like CS for the cultural exchange and enjoy to see places from a local perspective.

Interests

I like exploring new places, good weather, Problem solving, Boba, water-sports, history, languages, dreamy strolls on the beach, big cities, nature, animals and meeting new people. I am a foodie and love trying out new food. I have always been a big nerd at heart and enjoy new tech, gadgets and futuristic cityscapes. More recently I developed a new passion for cinema as well.
I also love airplanes, There is nothing so magical as being able to fly.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I love cinema extending pretty wide across genre, language, setting & time. While I can enjoy good popcorn movies a la Marvel, it's when a movie showcases true humanity that you really got my interest. Some favourite directors include Taika Waititi, Chaplin, Scorsese, Hitchcock, Tarantino, Bong ho Joon and Jim Jarmusch. I would love to talk about your favourite movies, or unknown pics from your country but I am casual enough to not even mention it if you don't care about Cinema.
Books: Encouraged by mom I was a big reader growing up, being of the Harry potter generation, those books have a special place in my heart and influenced my teenage years. While I nowadays read less fiction, I enjoy non fiction on a variety of topics.
Music: very diverse, I like a lot of different music styles and singers. Depending on my mood I like to listen to sing and Songwriters, upbeat, pop, country, musical music etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- The 6 months I worked in Los Angeles, I love that city and met amazing people.

- Going all the way up to the great wall of China on a beautiful sunny day in late february and once arrived at the top enjoying the beautiful mountainous area, the weather, the view and the very present history the place has to offer. Walking on the wall made me feel very small and at the same time very happy that I had the opportunity to travel and see something so amazing.

- Floating in the death sea & visiting the fascinating cities Jerusalem & Tel Aviv, the countryside and Palestine.

- paragliding over the beautiful city of Medellin, Colombia.

- Going to the sahara desert; I always found desert landscapes fascinating, maybe because its so different to the area I grew up in. So when we arrived at the sand dunes of the sahara after a couple long days of travelling it felt like one big dream. It was absolutely gorgeous.

- Canyoneering & snorkelling with whale sharks in the Philippines

But basically all the places I've been and the locals I met have been great.

Teach, Learn, Share

- I can help you get around Europe/Asia; where to go and how to do it cheap and easy. I know a fair bit about plane travel and how to book cheap fares and can teach you all about collecting airmiles. I can also teach dutch or english. I like to learn new things in general and love to hear good (travel) stories.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I believe that food is a great way to connect people and therefore always try to do something food related, either by cooking something or by taking you out for dinner.
I can teach some dutch or german and offer a place to stay and/or someone to ask questions to if you travel to Hong Kong. I can also help you prepare for a general 'Europe' or Asia trip. I have visited quite a few countries on both continents and can teach you how to get around cheap and easy (which airlines, which airports, where better to take busses/trains) and can give suggestions of where to go.
