About Me

Hi there! I'm Nina, a (mostly) Australian girl currently based in Berlin, Germany :)

I say that I'm mostly* Australian, because I spent my whole life so far living in different countries, growing up around the world with my parents and 4 younger siblings - Any TCKs out there I know you can relate ;)
But despite how chaotic living out of a suitcase can be at times, I wouldn't give it up for the world - I never get tired of exploring new places and cultures :)

In my travels, I have always been deeply moved by the endless depth of the human experience and (through platforms like CS) the healing power of human connection. From the incredible sights to the life-changing stories I learned from the people I met , I felt compelled to find a way to share them visually with the world - that's why I want to become a photojournalist. In the coming years, I'm looking to learn more and grow in the trade, in order to one day use my photography to amplify the stories which deserve to be seen. My ultimate goal is to capture the essence of humanity in the raw, fleeting moments of life and in turn use the universal language of imagery to bridge a greater understanding between people in this ever-polarising world. And of course, do it in a beautiful way as often as possible ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm absolutely fascinated by how other people live around the world and getting to know new places and authentic stories through a local's eyes - and there's no better way to do that than through this site ;)

Interests

I'm genuinely interested in everything :) ... especially things that I have never heard about before!

Some examples:
Photography (especially Documentary work), learning languages, meaningful conversations, dancing, the arts (particularly visual and performance), finding new music, fancy dress/costumes/ cosplay, playing with kids, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travel related: I hitchhiked all the way from Germany to Vietnam with a social project called Spicyroad. It took a whole year and sometimes I still can't believe that I did it ahah. I certainly have a lot of fun stories to tell about my trip which I would be more than happy to share if I get to meet you :)

Not travel related: If you have heard of the Uncensored Library, I was one of the main designers on the project.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you have something that you are interested in/ have any interesting hobbies I would love to learn more about it and have you teach me how to do it/take part in it :)

Be it your fascination with literature, music, economics, survival skills, animals, diving, magic tricks, cooking ... I want to be educated and enlightened please! Haha

What I Can Share with Hosts

Apart from some silly stories of things that I have done/ have happened to me in my travels which I could share, I have picked up some little skills that you might find useful or at least mildly entertaining that I would be happy to share with you:

I could teach you:
- How to get into Berghain in Berlin (one of the greatest clubs in the world with an infamous door policy)
- How to juggle
- A bit about photography
- How to use Photoshop
- Some English, French, Italian or German
