Overview
About Me
Sri Lankan born in Rome, raised in Toronto who lived in South Korea for a while and is now living in the sub-arctic. Still with me?
I work in the non-profit industry and I currently help youth who want to enter entrepreneurship!
I also have a cat named Mac (after Mac Miller!) and he’s the absolute apple of my eye 😂
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I grew up quite sheltered, I’m from a traditional South Asian household. I suppose I’ve always been a bit of a black sheep, doing things my own way. After I graduated from university I packed up and moved across the world to learn more about myself but more importantly- to learn about others. I wanted to look at my own privileges and upbringing and then expand my mind to understand the narratives of others.
I'm fascinated by human beings.
I'm the kind of person who will strike up a conversation with a stranger on the subway. My baristas know me by name. Even the people working at the grocery store know me. I just love people.
When I first started solo traveling, I learned about Couchsurfing. This is such a great way to meet other personable humans! Generally speaking, it’s a wonderful community!
Interests
I love live music, movies, stand up comedy, going to the gym, board games and being in nature!
I’m also a fan of fashion and makeup. I loooooove thrifting.

Music, Movies, and Books
My favourite director is Richard Linklater.
That being said I'm obsessed with horror movies. I also love international cinema! Some of my favourite titles overall include Slacker (1990), Midsommar (2019), The Bicycle Thieves (1948), In the Mood for Love (2000), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), Arrival (2016)… I could go on forever haha. I’m quite a film buff so I’m always happy to talk about your favourite movies and share recommendations.
My favourite authors include Stephen King, Bret Easton Ellis, Haruki Murakami, and Chuck Palahniuk. But I read anything and everything.
Music is a huge part of my life and I like to listen to a diverse range of genres. Recently, I've really been into alternative R&B and hip-hop.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I explored an abandoned mental asylum in South Korea (ask me about my supernatural encounter there)
I've been bioluminescent snorkeling at night in Thailand... which required me jumping off a boat in the middle of the ocean in pitch black darkness.
I took the Trans-Siberian railway alone and then stayed in the Gobi Desert in the dead of winter (-50 degrees Celsius!)
I went to Teman Negara rainforest alone for 2 days and was eaten alive by leeches and fire ants
Teach, Learn, Share
As as a former ESL teacher I have experience teaching elementary school, middle school, high school, AND adult level English - I'm patient, a good listener, and I can talk your ear off.
So, if English is your second language, I’m more than happy to practice English together :)
Now, I teach entrepreneurship to young people. If you have a business idea, I’d be happy to pass some knowledge your way and offer any help I can.
I also love telling / listening to scary stories, urban legends and myths from all over the world !
I'm a writer so I'm always looking for inspiration. Tell me about your life, your culture, your hopes and dreams. I feed off that stuff.
I love playing card games and drinking games. Teach me some and I'll do the same!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I really try to read people and I can tell if you want to be left alone or if you're looking for a good conversation or a partying buddy (though these days partying doesn’t come as naturally as it did pre-30 haha). These days I lean more towards the sober side but will happily share a drink or two if that’s what you’re up for.
There is no pressure to be Host of the Year because I can definitely keep myself entertained, I have no fear of exploring alone! I also totally understand you may be working or have other obligations- all I ask is you at least allow me to treat you to a meal as a gesture of my gratitude if you can make time for it :)
I’m also able to (and would love to) have meaningful interactions with you if you're willing and able to have the time and energy for it.
I'm respectful and easygoing and I will take care of your place as if it were my own.
