About Me

**********************************************************************************************************************************************
I very much encourage you to please send me a couch-request only if you have kindly taken the time to provide a fair description of yourself on your profile. You stand a better chance of convincing me that you are keen to share your travelling experience, and consequently stand a better chance of getting a favourable reply from me, if you have made the effort of writing informatively about yourself. I would also suggest you read my "About" and "My Home" pages so that you don't miss anything important.
Thank you :-)

CURRENT MISSION

To meet people who are travelling to Mauritius and keen on discovering the island through the perspective of a local who has lived abroad for more than a decade.

ABOUT ME

I'm a curiosity-driven person with a scientific bent. I have thus ended up training as a mathematical physicist, and go about the world trying to be less confused about things. Having grown up in a multicultural place like Mauritius, I have been fortunate to be able to further travel abroad to spend years learning and experiencing some amazing cultures in various countries. I am now taking a small break from travels, to settle down a bit and focus on living life locally for some time, with the idea of meeting with travellers and sharing with them the great mix of cultures and sceneries that is Mauritius.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am mostly hosting at the moment. When not, meeting people for coffee/food/events would be nice :-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted couchsurfers in Melbourne, Canberra, Paris, Munich, Cape Town, and Mauritius, many of those before I even joined couchsurfing.org. I have been kindly hosted in Cape Town, Berlin, Lausanne, Leiden, London, Lyon, Paris, Perth, Prague, Singapore, Sydney, and Toulouse.

I have had many wonderful conversations, meals, laughs, and experiences with people from many parts of the world through couchsurfing. It's proven itself to be a fantastic way to allow people to understand each other. I hope to do more surfing myself in the future, but for now I'm very happy to host whenever I can.

Interests

Picking other people's brains on their views of the world, travelling, being out and about, experiencing new sensations, eating, playing the tabla, cycling, walking long walks, reading, music (clubbing to some nice music is mandatory in Mauritius!), people, places, hiking, mountaineering, culture, dancing, talking, drinking . . . the normal and then some more.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: My favourite movie still remains Tarsem Singh's absolutely mesmerising "The Fall".

Music: I'm always on the lookout for new musical experience. And I love clubbing to some good music!

Books: I am slowly cataloging my insanely huge library of books at Goodreads [see http://tinyurl.com/qy7247n].
I'm reading mostly nonfiction, but am keen to pick fiction recommendations from people who are willing to tell me why they like what they read :-)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Several such things, if I may:
Kite-surfing in Mauritius (Le Morne), surfing in Cape Town (Muizenberg), cycle-racing in Cape Town & Stellenbosch (Cape Argus, Die Burger), swimming in open sea with dolphins in Mauritius (off La Gaulette & Flic en Flac), (tandem) sky-diving in Cape Town (Skydive Cape Town) and in Mauritius (SkyDive Austral), bungy-jumping from Bloukrans Bridge in South Africa, (tandem) paragliding from the Jungfraujoch down to the bottom of the Lauterbrunnen valley in Switzerland . . .

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: About Mauritius and its cultural intricacies (trust me, it's quite a fantastic melting pot!) And all you wanted, or thought you wanted, to know about the marvelous world of physics and mathematics, but were afraid to ask - well, try me anyway! :-) Together with a physics PhD friend of mine, I am running a Science Café (Check it out on Facebook: Café Scientifique Maurice), and you could get involved during your stay if that's something that you might enjoy :-)

Learn: Cultures and how they mingle, people, arts and dances, views, sciences, languages, music. Basically anything you can teach me! :-)

Share: Local culture, food, drinks, laughter, good and bad experiences, views, anything that's worth sharing!
