About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to sing like Jon Por Birgisson

ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in Riga, and study Biology at the time, aiming to graduate with a Master degree in Microbiology in summer of 2012 and pursue a job in the area.

Due to the study organization and the economical conditions I still live with my parents and can't offer a couch.

I'm messy at my own home, however, as a guest I am responsible and comply with the host's rules of the house and clean up before leaving. Also, I neither drink nor smoke.

I'm hardly a serious person and could describe myself as that never-growing kid who has a fair share of pessimism and compassion. I offer trust for trust and stories for stories, but also enjoy a good deal of chitchatting, exchanging cultural nuances and silly word games.

I get easily distracted from everything by anything, unless it's something I'm passionate about at the time - meeting new, open minded people is an everlasting hit.

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently I only occasionally surf, but I hope to get more involved in the community in the future.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

- Stayed with Helio and his friends for a night and with Cedric Pernet (Gringito here; awesome traveller and photographer) for two nights (along with two of my friends) in London, end of January 2010.
-Stayed with Jonas Becker-Tietz in Hamburg for 6 days in Jan/Feb 2009,
-took Guido Rumpel and his friend Ruben to a teahouse in January 2009 in Riga as a relief from the cold Latvian winter before a hockey match,
-stayed at Magda Starkova's (majdle) house in Olomouc for 10 days in August 2009,
-traveled a few times and stayed 2 times with Martin Frodl (magairlin) in the period from October 2006 to August 2009

So far all my CouchSurfing experiences have been positive and I hope to keep it that way. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I like several fantasy authors, like Robin Hobb, George Martin, good old Tolkien. I used to be a huge Harry Potter fan. Also, I like Scandinavian literature and science books, both textbooks and more "popular" literature.

Movies: 5 Cenitmeters per Second, Spirited Away, Slumdog Millionaire, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Heima, Fight Club, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Music: Мельница, Flёur, Tori Amos, Iļģi, Auļi, Muse, Sigur Ros,Snow Patrol, Bjork, music by various classical and contemporary composers. Relatively lately I've also developed a taste for saccharine-sweet Japanese pop music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ask me in 20 years, I might give an answer then!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you about Latvian culture (traditions, songs, mentality), a bit of biochemistry, how to hold a violin, and how to yell like a peacock
