About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Decide on new joke to put here

ABOUT ME

I was born in Melbourne and raised there and in Canada. Recently, after spending seven months studying in Lyon and generally dicking about in Europe, I went home, finally knocked over the last couple of semesters of my undergrad and am now already overseas again.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to keep in mind the idea that there is something positive to be gained from any person I encounter, though of course not everyone I meet makes this easy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

On my last trip I managed to not actually couchsurf the entire time - though not for lack of trying. I'm a big fan of the idea though and keen to get into it this year.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

No direct experience yet, but I have visited a friend who was CSing in Paris and met her charming Couch Host, and also heard only good feedback from other friends who have been hosted in various places.

Interests

I suppose playing music is my main hobby (though I have little to show for it), but I also like books and film, travel (one would hope), scotch whisky when I can afford it, beer and wine when I can't, skiing when I can afford that (rarely), and various other forms of exercise when I find the time and inclination (almost never but I really do enjoy myself).

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: First and foremost I love Rodriguez, Neil Young, Frank Zappa and the Talking Heads. Apart from this dinosaur music I like a whole bunch of stuff I won't list in detail, much of it released recently.

Movies: My favourite film is probably The Good, The Bad And The Ugly. I also love Apocalypse Now, The Shining, Whitnail & I, Poltergeist, Vertigo and Chinatown amongst many others. Special mention: pretty much every Miyazaki movie.

Books: Again amongst many others, I will say that my favourite authors are John Steinbeck, Kurt Vonnegut and Graham Greene.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I met Rodriguez, a musical hero of mine who went off the radar in the 70s when his record label folded, and who was widely believed to be dead for many years. A few years ago he resurfaced and came to Melbourne. I saw his show and met him afterwards, one of hundreds who lined up to shake his hand and tell him how much we love his music. It was practically like meeting John Lennon - any Rodriguez fans will understand.
