About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn enough Serbian that I can put it as a 'Beginner' language on my CS profile

ABOUT ME

Hi everybody!

If your automatic response to that was to say "Hi, Dr Nick!" I already like you. Unfortunately, I'm not a doctor, but my name is Nick, and I do love The Simpsons, so hopefully that's a good start.

I'm a 29-year-old guy from Australia, and, surprise surprise, I love travelling! I've done a few trips recently to India and Nepal, and just returned from 6 months in Europe. I became incredibly fond of couchsurfing, and I'm looking forward to hosting now that I'm back in Melbourne.

My favourite part of travel is immersing myself in other cultures, and I think the best way to do that is by living with locals, like locals. I'm very aware that inviting a stranger into your home is a generous thing to do, so I'm always happy to give my hosts a small gift or buy them a nice dinner to say thanks.

I'm a really easy-going guy, and I'd always be grateful for any accomodation offered, regardless of size or location. I'm always up for a beer, but I wouldn't call myself a party animal, and I'm just as happy to stay in and have a quiet conversation as I am to go out.

I speak fairly fluent French, and can hold a simple conversation in Chinese, and I'm always keen to pick up a bit of the local language wherever I am.

That's pretty much it about me, and I hope to meet as many of you as possible!

PHILOSOPHY

I'm not sure if I could really say I have a 'personal philosophy,' but I do like to live with a positive and optimistic attitude, and I'm always looking for new things to do and see. I'm a relaxed and non-judgmental person, and I like to treat everyone I meet as a potential friend, not a potential enemy

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surfing, hosting, eating, drinking, joking, music-ing, dancing, sleeping, laughing, not crying, enjoying, befriending!

Fuck that's corny. Sorry, but I can't think of anything else to write so I'm just going to leave it there for the moment...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've now done a bit of couchsurfing around Europe and so far every experience has been really good

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Superbad, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Shrek

Music is one of my real passions, and I've found that some of my favourite CS moments have been as simple as sharing music with my hosts: Cat Empire, Chemical Brothers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Vampire Weekend, Crystal Fighters, Muse, Bloody Beetroots, Digitalism, Gotye, Pendulum, Miami Horror, Dandy Warhols, Kasabian, Royksopp, SBTRKT, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin (amongst others)

Books: Anything by Terry Pratchett, Shakespeare, Stieg Larsson, and many others

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think the most amazing thing I've done was reaching the top of Gokyo Ri, a 5500m peak in Nepal. It took us 3 weeks to trek there through ridiculous mountains and thin air, but the views we got of Mt Everest from the top were worth every minute. It was about -25C at the peak, but we'd made a pact to drop our pants and take a photo of our bare arses in front of Everest, and that picture is now a priceless memento of our achievement/immaturity.

Teach, Learn, Share

Everyone has something to teach, whether it's in a do-what-they-do way, or a FOR-THE-LOVE-OF-GOD-DON'T-DO-WHAT-THEY-DO way...
