About Me

CURRENT MISSION

finding rest

ABOUT ME

We live in Hirosaki. Mutsumi is kind, and a good listener. She does volunteer music therapy at nursing homes. She cooks creatively, and makes things that I can eat, which is also very kind (I can't eat wheat). I (Nick) like to learn, especially re: psychology / religion / philosophy. I play shakuhachi. I like books.

We met at a church in Nanae, Hokkaido, and moved to Hirosaki after marrying. Our daughter May likes to walk and yell.

PHILOSOPHY

I (Nick) dropped out of Bible college to study world religions. I especially liked Lao Tzu and Chinese Zen. Studying Zen and shakuhachi ended up in my deciding to follow Jesus. Mutsumi became a Christian while she was in the US studying music therapy. Both of us like to welcome anyone we can. I especially enjoy meeting people who don't agree with me (it's hard to do in Japan sometimes...)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We're currently living in university housing, which is quite inexpensive, but unfortunately doesn't allow us to have overnight guests. We'd still be happy to meet you or have you over for coffee during the day, though.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It's always nice to meet people (except when you don't want to meet anyone). I've been doing it since before couchsurfing was around.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: bladerunner. Music: good music is good. Don't like bad music. Books: too many to list. Let's talk.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to teach you what I know on Shakuhachi. I study classical zen pieces as well as kinpu-ryu, a school native to Hirosaki. Otherwise, just talking is fine.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bolivia, Italy, South Korea
