Overview
About Me
I was born in Bronx, NY. I moved to New Jersey when I was kid. I grew up in a pretty normal suburban area. With a bonus of visiting NYC when I wanted being about 15 minutes away. I graduated from a pretty normal college. That's when I made the choice to join a Americorps. I got a call from a program and two weeks later I flew to Alaska. I've been living in Sitka for the last year. It has been an Amazing experience. I tutor high school kids, and volunteer at a non profit thrift shop as a volunteer coordinator.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Hmm... well being an Americorps volunteer is not the most lucrative choice of employment. Couch surfing seem like a great way to travel cheaply. The most important reason though is you get to meet amazing people. You also can get the inside scoop on places you've never been to. I believe traveling is really important.
Interests
I've recently discovered a love for hiking. Reaching the summit of a mountain is one of the most amazing feelings in the world. I love to play a majority of sports. Both watching and playing. I have an unhealthy obsession with Fantasy Football. I enjoy running, video games, and reading. Since I graduated high school I've begun to research Japanese culture extensively. At least all the important parts like sushi, anime, and manga. I've been trying to learn Japanese for awhile. I attempting to learn to play guitar but it is slow going. I also want to learn how to dance, but I can't find any lessons in Sitka.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Frank Sinatra, Outkast, Sublime, The Beatles, Bruno Mars, Cage the Elephant, CCR, and K'naan. Movies: A Knight's Tale, enough said Books: I read a ton. All fiction. I've gotten to the point where authors and titles have begun to blend together. I've been on a sci-fi, fantasy stint recently. I just read a few books by Jim Butcher, Karen Miller, and Brent Weeks. Also a big fan of Bernard Cornwell who does mainly historical fiction.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I June I ran a race in Sitka called the Alpine run. Its a seven mile race. You run 1500ft up a mountain and run about five miles after you reach the summit along a ridge. It leads to another mountain. It was an incredible experience. The best part was that berry bushes grow along side the trail, so you can just grab a few blueberries if you need some extra fuel.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm pretty knowledgeable about history and Japanese culture. I know more about sports than is probably healthy. I have some insight on what its like to live in Alaska. I love to cook and would be more then willing to contribute to any meal. That doesn't mean I'm a great cook, but I try really hard. I love to learn about new things. I don't consider myself very religious, but I love to have conversations about it. I lived with a pastor for about 7 months, so I got to learn about religion in an interesting way outside of a church setting. I like talking about different cultural practices.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Not really sure. I'm pretty opened minded, and willing to try new things, I adapt to most situations fairly fast. I'm really curious about how people live in areas I have not been to. So if anyone is an aspiring tour guide I would be a great audience.
