Overview
About Me
I'm a sailor/metalhead/biologist that loves adventure, traveling to new places, and meeting people in different parts of the world. I've met so many amazing people through couchsurfing and volunteering, and learn new things from everyone I meet.
I've spent the past two years as a student at a small college in rural Vermont studying Ecology, and am fascinated by the natural world. I'll probably drag you into identifying the plant and bird species around your house. I spent this past summer as a research intern in New Mexico, studying rainfall, soil, and desert plants.
My main interest for a while has been marine science, and I'm currently moving to Washington to take classes towards a degree in marine environmental conservation - though I might decide I really just want to work on boats and pursue a maritime career instead.
I'm a backpacker, and have backpacked about 400 miles of the Appalachian Trail and various trips in California, including the backcountry of Yosemite and the Lost Coast.
I have about 3,000 sea miles and love being on or near the ocean however I can. I worked on a tall ship with a crew of theater pirates for a month and half, and crewed on a yacht delivery from Hawaii to California.
I love music, and mainly listen to metal, but also listen to folk, punk, rock, and afrobeat.
I look forward to getting to know you!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Meeting new people and gaining new perspectives, learning new things, and being inspired by other travelers.
When I was getting ready to hike the Appalachian Trail and moved to Harrisburg, my first couchsurfing host and her friends ended up being my main group of friends in that city after I moved there, and I think couchsurfing is a great way to make connections in a new place.
I hope to have a place to host couchsurfers in the future so I can return the favor.
Interests
Nature, activism, traveling, music, drum circles, Taekwondo, medieval and renaissance studies, sailing, backpacking, wilderness skills, and adventure.
I wouldn't say I play any instrument fluently, but the closest I come to that is doing west african drumming for a few years with a group in my hometown of Columbus, OH. I've tried some middle eastern drumming and irish frame drum, and fool around on pianos and tinwhistles.
I have a black belt in Taekwondo and am looking forward to getting involved in that again. I'd like to get my third degree black belt and open a Taekwondo studio someday. I've also practiced some capoeira.
I traveled to Ecuador the summer before last and helped build an insectarium in the Andes, and I'd like to get back into learning Spanish.

Teach, Learn, Share
I have a black belt in Taekwondo, and would gladly teach some techniques and self-defense I know. I also play the djembe, an african drum, and could teach a variety of african drumbeats. I've also kept bees for two years. I'm sure there's various other little things I could teach or experiences I could relate if you're interested.
I've been practicing ukulele and tin whistle, and would love to learn about playing music, on any instrument. Some of my major interests are natural history and field biology, and I'd love to learn anything you know about wildlife, plants, and the local environment. I'd also love to hear any stories you have about traveling.
What I Can Share with Hosts
