About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I bought a one-way ticket to Southeast Asia, so I will be there from December 2017 until who knows when. I'm spending the first month with extended family in Thailand and then I'll be venturing on my own. I often do work exchange through sites like HelpX.net but I also like to visit cities for a weekend or take day-trips and am often looking for people to meet up with to share experiences, meals, music, etc.
ABOUT ME
Hi! I was born and raised in sunny San Diego, though I lived in Rhode Island for the past five years. I like meeting new people and going wherever life takes me, which usually involves random things in out-of-the-way places. I think surprises, both good and bad, can be the most exciting and memorable parts of any adventure, so surprise me!
Also, you won't find me on Facebook, but a quick Google will confirm I'm a real person :P
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I couchsurf to explore places I might otherwise never see with people who I might otherwise never meet. My first couchsurfing experience was in the Midwest of the USA (Pittsburgh, Ann Arbor, Chicago) -- somewhere I probably would never go otherwise -- and in both cities and small towns in Northern Italy, and by doing so, I saw parts of both places many travelers don't see. That's why I do it: to discover and to share my discoveries!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My undeniably awesome friend/ former roommate introduced me to CS during our 2014 Spring Break, but I really only got hooked on it in the fall of 2015 when I realized it's much more than just staying with random people in random places. It's about building community and meeting awesome individuals, and I've made so many great friends as result, most of whom never hosted me!
Interests
Food (EVERYthing to do with food) - cooking, gardening, tasting, collaborating
Music! (theory, composition, performance, etc.) - I sing (true bass), play guitar, and also Shona Mbira (which I bring on my travels). I also love writing music, whether it's scratches on staff paper or notes in a computer. I will gladly perform music for you as well! It's sharing work that I pour my heart into.
Anything to do with the ocean, specifically marine life, and life in a marine setting (i.e. snorkeling, surfing, bodysurfing, beach combing, etc.)
Other: photography; graphic design; futbol; temperate weather; climbing trees; bicycling; food; gardening...and many many more things besides

Music, Movies, and Books
All sorts of music, usually from ~1650 to present day. I grew up listening to quite the variety of LPs, but enjoy all sorts of music...to the extent that I study music...and write music... so I'm not going to write bands or genres, but let you know I'm open to simply listening and appreciating (and of course discussing/enjoying) whatever music you have to offer. I also have music of my own I would love to share: music I love as well as music I've written.
I love most any book I can get my hands on, and usually end up getting my hands on too many books...
Also I don't usually have favorites, but show me yours! maybe it'll become my favorite.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Stayed at a research field station in lowland Amazonia near the Rio Negro for a week, where time was spent trekking the forest, swimming in igarapes, and playing truco.
Teach, Learn, Share
Would like to learn: whatever you want to teach me!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I studied both environmental science and music at university, but I do a lot more than that. Ask me about it.
Can Teach: Thai & Italian Cuisine, acoustic guitar, Shona Mbira (dzavadzimu), biology, and more!
Share: I love to share old experiences and stories, but let's make some new ones while we're at it.
Other: I love sharing experiences or wisdom (anyone have gardening tips?) and am willing to philosophize about anything that I have a peripheral knowledge of...I think I've always been in environments where the people are quite proficient at simply contemplating random things, so that's what I've gotten accustomed to doing.
