About Me

Giving others an idea of who you are is never easy. I try to live the values most important to me: integrity, personal happiness, compassion, and reason. I love to laugh, learn about other people and find human connection wherever it may be. I like being shown that I am mistaken - it helps me build a better perspective.

This section used to talk about my quest to find meaning - in the time since writing that, I think I've made a lot of headway and have a better idea of what gives me meaning, and what I'd like my impact on the world to be.

I really enjoy delving into new and unfamiliar territory - there's a buzz you get from new experiences which is difficult to find elsewhere. Some of the best experiences I've had involved embracing a hobby or interest I'd never tried.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The memories I remember most fondly are centred around the forming of a human connection. Whether you shared an epic mountain adventure, a crazy night out, or talked until the early hours of the morning, the sensation of connecting with someone like this is why I travel. In this way, Couchsurfing and the people I have met have given me so much. I have been given clarity, new perspectives and hope. I hope I can do the same for others.

Interests

-Rock climbing has been the main hobby for a few years now. If there's an opportunity to get on a wall, chances are I won't say no. Honestly, chances are I'll pester you to come climbing with me.

-Entrepreneurship has become my life over the last year. It's something I've fallen in love with.

-Having 'real' conversations is something which I've decided to classify as an 'interest'. I don't mean the regular stuff you talk about but don't really want to. I mean conversations which make you think about them for days, which make you see yourself in a completely different light, and which have you laughing uncontrollably.

-I find conversations about the world, how change can be effected extremely engaging, whether through community/alternative living, Effective Altruism, shift in consciousness, revolution, etc. I also enjoy talking (not too intensely) about the state of society and and what things are going to look like a few decades from now (or what I hope it will look like!)

-My idea of the ideal afternoon is lounging in a park, alternating between slacklining, chess, conversation (thought-provoking, zany or controversial preferred), acroyoga, throwing the frisbee, this list doesn't really ever stop, I just enjoy too many things, playing cards, practicing Spanish, etc.

-I'm a big fan of basketball, ultimate frisbee, board games (especially chess), table football.

-Outdoor adventures and exploring nature. Hiking, camping, rafting, surfing, a picnic amidst a beautiful landscape. These experiences are a huge part of why I love to travel.

Music, Movies, and Books

BOOKS
1984, Brave New World, The Life You Can Save, Mistborn, The Magicians, Neverwhere, and above all, Harry Potter.

MOVIES
Pulp Fiction, Rogue One, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Django Unchained, Cloud Atlas.

I can't resist a good documentary either: Valley Uprising (Reel Rock in general), Winning Time, Zeitgeist (with a grain of salt), and Scientology: A Prison of Belief, Meru, Dawn Wall.

TV
I'm a big Always Sunny in Philadephia fan. I'm a firm believer that people who share a love for Always Sunny will inevitably get along famously - and I'm still waiting to be proved wrong :) I also like Game of Thrones and South Park.

MUSIC
Arctic Monkeys, Tracy Chapman, The Killers, Mac Demarco, Leon Bridges, Chet Faker, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Simon and Garfunkel, Milky Chance, Hocus Pocus, Ludovico Einaudi, Fat Freddy's Drop, Metallica, Kings of Leon.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Couchsurfed on a Native Indian reserve in Alberta, Canada. I slept in a teepee and helped out by feeding/playing with his 50 Alaskan Husky sled dogs! On top of that, I had the privilege of participating in a sweat lodge! Certainly a memorable week!

Teach, Learn, Share

TEACH
I'm always more than happy to try and offer advice about the things I can. If you're interested in rock climbing, effective altruism, entrepreneurship basics, basketball, chess, slacklining, frisbee or the very basics of (acro)yoga, feel free to ask.

LEARN
There is so much I want to learn about: fiction writing, how to sing, Spanish, more about acroyoga, meditation, cooking - the list goes on. The fact that there's far more I want to learn about than there is time is particularly hard for me to swallow.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will share whatever I can, and whatever it may be. Usually the most enjoyable things to share are not material things. A meal, a laugh, skill exchange.

If that doesn't interest you, what I can offer most often is engaging (hopefully) conversation, a different perspective and perhaps a board game/card game/sport opponent if you're so inclined. I can be very playful (maybe too much?) and enjoy playing any game, new or old. I also think that there is tremendous value in discussing your views with people you don't already know - my outlook on life has developed time and time again through discussions with people who, at the time, I wasn't familiar with, and made me the person I am today. I especially enjoying talking about alternative lifestyles, the challenges faced by society, and hearing the experiences of others.

'Happiness is when what you have to give meets what the world needs'.
