ABOUT ME
8 years ago, confronted by the confines of identity building that the current form of society funnels us into, I stopped cold in my tracks one day while walking to take a biology test at a university, realizing that the limited scope of experience offered would not suit my needs.
So I gave everything I owned away and bought a one way plane ticket to the farthest place I could find.
For years I would travel the world and live and work as the people I encountered on this journey did. I was looking for the foundation of human existence and experience. I photographed this journey and wrote down my observations, living out of a backpack and moving from town to town around the world, with chance as my guide. Two years ago, while in Spain, I started sharing these stories and photos, by putting them up on buildings, creating temporary exhibits of world photography, to share a message of a global community and a story of inspiration and faith in chance.
I would leave a giant pasting of a photo that either complimented the image of the town, or fulfilled one that was missing. It became a way to leave a gift to a place that had given to me, and share the message of global community when all to often we only hear the message of global markets. Street pastings around the world.
I would go from city to city doing the exhibits and pastings and filming them. I started editing films that would act as a digital diary, encapsulating my experience in that place and edited to music from a local musician. I have had a couple films go to film festivals. And will be on tour with one such film this fall. Heading to Nova Scotia for the Devour film fest.
I am currently in San Francisco, working out of an art collective, Merchants of Reality. Im looking for grants and possible places to exhibit my work / share this story of global community, and how rather then forcing an identity into the world, letting the world shape one for you can reveal some of its most beautiful secrets.
I am the hanged man! I am the hanged man, coo coo ca chu
You are the Hanged Man
Self-sacrifice, Sacrifice, Devotion, Bound.
With the Hanged man there is often a sense of fatalism, waiting for something to happen. Or a fear of
loss from a situation, rather than gain.
The Hanged Man is perhaps the most fascinating card in the deck. It reflects the story of Odin who offered himself as a sacrifice in order to gain knowledge. Hanging from the world tree, wounded by a spear, given no bread or mead, he hung for nine days. On the last day, he saw on the ground runes that had fallen from the tree, understood their meaning, and, coming down, scooped them up for his own. All knowledge is to be found in these runes.
The Hanged Man, in similar fashion, is a card about suspension, not life or death. It signifies selflessness, sacrifice and prophecy. You make yourself vulnerable and in doing so, gain illumination. You see the world differently, with almost mystical insights.
