About Me

***CURRENT MISSION*** Free my mind and play volleyball

I am a PhD student in bioinformatics with a background in computer engineering, fan of sports and healthy lifestyle. So I don't smoke, don't drink alcohol and I enjoy running outside the volleyball season. I eat slowly and generally a lot of food, so don't be surprise if I often eat snacks during sightseeing :) Spending time together you will for sure notice two things (at least): I cannot do two things at a time, which means I cannot eat an ice-cream and walk at the same time, I need to stop and enjoy my ice cream :D Morover, if I host you I'm a perfectionist: trying to plan what to see and do to maximize your time in Brussels.

I always challenge my mind, by learning new things as fast as possible. I deeply believe that's really important to be able to learn quickly to adapt yourself in every situation.

I enjoy spend time with people in quiet places, where I can talk easily without shouting. I can say I really feel uncomfortable in pubs with loud music or similar. I'm definitely not a party guy.

I try to get at least one photo from each couchsurfing experience I had, and I will upload it in my album here in the website. It's very nice to watch at them some time.

Finally, I really enjoy that you took your time to read my profile page. I really appreciate. Thanks in advance for that.

***PHILOSOPHY***

I must take the opportunity with the highest uncertainty, because the higher the uncertainty the higher the experience and enjoyment will be. I think that this kind of experience will always be great, they will sometimes be very great, but they will never be bad.

If I want to visit a place or a country, I must live in a family there for a while. I don't like the standard tourist style anymore, because the experience you get living with locals during your staying is very high than otherwise.

For me, doing sports and activities is the most successful way to make friends.

I don't do long-term planning, things change so fast. I will take an opportunity as I have one

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

***HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING***

I would like to travel all the time, but it is not feasible. So I really welcome people, where I stay, who share and explain me their lifestyle and culture or what they have seen during their travels. It's like bringing a little part of the world here :) and so far it worked very well

During warm seasons I'll travel as much as possible, possibly being hosted by couchsurfers, while during the winter I'm glad to host travellers here

Interests

Volleyball: I started playing volleyball at the age of 6. I am a setter, and as left-handed I enjoy spiking sometimes.

Chess: my father and my brother taught me chess when I was very young. In the High School Year I started playing tournaments and reading several chess books. I am non-rated player. I have a magnetic chessboard in my room, so you are always welcome to play a game at chess or checkers.

Languages: speaking the local language really makes the difference when you are travelling, you will get the most out of your experience. Obviously it's not possible to learn and speak all the languages but I'll do my best.

Data analysis: ok that's a little bit nerd :) but I enjoy play around with data and apply some learning algorithm to make a sense out of it. Luckily that's part of my job.

Music, Movies, and Books

* Movie: Matrix is my favourite movie, and the scene I watch every now an then is the Kung Fu training fight between Neo and Morpheus. It's very inspiring. My current mission is taken from that scene.

Moreover, there is a movie which is broadcasted every Christmas Eve in Italy and I watch it every year, if you have not seen this movie yet I warmly suggest you to take your time and watch it, it's "Trading Places" :) Enjoy

* Music: I usually listen to music because I need to concentrate on studying, I need to relax or I'm going jogging or something like that. I have playlist of mixed artists based upon the purpose. An artist I really appreciate is Soley.

* Books: "The Little Prince": simple and clear principles to understand and follow.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

2010 (seen): Grand Canyon and Bryce National Parks are really amazing. But I know there are uncountable things to see out there, I hope to see all of them.

2012 (done): I moved abroad for studies.

2013 (done): I started hosting travellers.

Teach, Learn, Share

I guess volleyball could be the best thing I can teach you. As Italian, I'm supposed to be a very good cook: I'm working on it and I keep improving :) I really appreciate when surfers teach me how to cook their typical cuisine. For instance, I got the chance to cook by myself Menemen, a Turkish dish served for breakfast.

By the way, I would like to learn something completely different with respect to what I've done so far, such as play an instrument (I'm always fascinating by the violin) or wooden crafting.

In my never-ending todo list, I would mention to do hitchhiking. Recently few poeple told me about that and actually this is the one step out of the comfort zone I will definitely do. Don't know where, but it's likely to be this summer.

In our house we have a chessboard and a go-board we can play with. I played chess at school for long time while for go, I'm pretty new but really interested in this fascinating game. If you know the game we must definitely play one game at least :)
