Ask. Don't be shy. There's one time I just randomly ask somebody if I can sleep in their yard, and they offer me a bed and a room.

Enjoy everything regardless the situation.
One of the most exciting experience I have is staying up all night at beach, because our booking was canceled due to a misunderstanding. And all other hotels are fully booked due to festive season. Feeling pissed, we light up bonfire and sing emotionally. Started with only 5 of us peoples keep coming up all night joining us singing and playing games to the point where it seems like there's a party going on. I learn that it is more fun to enjoy what you have rather than getting what you want.
