ABOUT ME

Now is august 2017

We are working, building and do very small farming. Mostly during the summer months.

Of global economical reason farms here in the north does not go so good anymore. Few are left.

We have sometimes also wwoofers and helpers here.

To come as a CS is therefore a kind av problematically. If you have sleeping-bag or tent it is usually no problem.

Sometimes we do not have any space. And if we have space - we normally just can offer job to do (same as our wwoofer/helper conditions). It does not work with vacation-CS and other persons working full time at the same time. Anyway you can always ask.

Here is info sent to wwoofers and helpers. Date July 2016.

Organic Status: since 1975 ecological (organic-biological)

June month is a very hectic month.

Welcome to this info! This is a part of the North. In summer - no darkness - no nights - just a very friendly mild sun shining all the time. In summer we do not sleep. (Yes we do). Just enjoy what nature can give. In coldest winter - not so much sun - only ghost-light from millions of stars and the moon and northern-lights - the aurora which moves over the sky in curtains of colors.

When we have helpers here - we see it as an advantage to have two volunteers during the same period. We usually can not accommodate more than two helpers at the same time. (Sometimes one, sometimes three.)

In June and later mostly gardening. But it is always everything else also.

We are trying to live and have our farming as it is sustainable and rugged. It is ecological (organic) and we try to treat animals and nature in an ethical dignity. We try to have an ethical, humane and humanistic relationship with the people who deserve it.

Now we have two guest-houses. One is new built and the other one we usually have for helpers. From this year/summer we will rent both houses out to tourists. They book the houses through airbnb, where you also can check it. Farming is no good anymore. Just industrial farms will go on. And for surviving here it is maybe a possible way to rent out rooms and houses. In another house I am building three rooms. Not ready. During period when tourists have booked houses we can not have helpers in these two houses.

We are a couple and our children are grown up and moved to other places on this earth. Most of the farm job, type forest, animals, building is done by me, Anders.

We live in the northern part of the planet Earth. All our work is therefore adapted to nature, and we follow the rhythm of nature as much as possible. This means that during the winter period, which is about six months long, are working days rather short. It is difficult to perform meaningful work unless you have the special skills that we need at the time. It's dark, it's cold and it's a lot of snow.

We have normally no spring. Summer is two months and the autumn three to four months. This means that we have to work very much if not the weather makes it impossible for work. In summer, the sun is up day and night. It never gets dark. The working time during the most intense time can therefore be very long. But most of the time we do not do much after dinner.

What is not done when it is possible to do it you have to wait for the next year. If it is not intensive we do other things than just work.

Nature's rhythm and weather characterizes the culture that we are living in.

When we have helpers we have found out that best time to be here is about three weeks. A shorter period does not give you much knowledge and us not much help either. Even three weeks give you just information about what is going on that period. Longer time is possible but the chances are that you will be tired of the intense work.

Our food is, if possible, and mostly organic and depending on the season also grown by us here.

We try to leave as little footprint and bad problem to future generations as we can. We are still not particularly extreme in that regard.

The electricity we consume comes from wind power to 100%. We have a long-term contract with a wind energy company.

From the July of 2015 we produce our own solar-(sun)-electricity. And over the year we seems to be self-sufficient. More during the summer and nearly nothing during the darkest months. But it works like we sell electricity during the summer and buy electricity when we consume more than we produce.

We use some contents of bio-diesel for tractor, loader and cars.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Info about Nortern light.
We passed in 2001, an aurora maximum (northern light) but we can still expect very aurora the next few winters. Maximum aurora occurs in about 11 years.

You can only see it when it is clear nights and not so good in cities (too much light).

There is a light phenomenon that can best be seen in Earth's polar regions.
Aurora occurs when electrons from the sun falls toward the upper part of the Earth's atmosphere at 100-400 km altitude. Electron hits the atmosphere along an oval around each magnetic pole - auroral oval.

Auroral zone is an area on Earth where the average occurrence of auroras is greatest. It extends through northern Scandinavia over Iceland, Greenland's southern tip, through northern Canada and Alaska and along the Siberian north coast.
