About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To spend more time playing and less time working!

ABOUT ME

I work half the week helping mums and kids to deal with the after-effects domestic abuse as a floating support worker through narrative therapy. I'm just finishing a masters degree too and jobhunting.

I play English and European Folk Music. I play whistles and Irish flute and sing sometimes. I love playing in informal 'sessions'. I also 'call' for ceilidhs at weddings mostly in the summer.

I love to cook, veggie food mostly. I love to eat even more, and I love to eat out as much as I can afford.

I love to party...not so keen on the after effects...doesn't stop me though!

PHILOSOPHY

I want never ever to regret that I didn't do enough.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

By showing people my home town. Sheffield is a great place to live and a great place to visit. It has a rich industrial history and is a very interesting place to investigate.

It's also a great base for hikers, climbers, and other outdoorsy types. There are amazing caves, pubs and walks. I love going for walks so always need an excuse!

Sheffield also has a pretty good nightlife, some good clubs and bars and lots of alternative and underground parties. If you want to party then I can take you to one, and expect to be out until breakfast time!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed a bit in Europe. I have also hosted some lovely people in several houses I have lived in.

I also stayed with some very kind people in Palestine, in Hebron and Bil'in. This was couchsurfing I found not through CS. Stayed on the floor of a nursery in the home of a UN human rights worker in Hebron with friends, that was pretty weird, but not quite as scary as staying in the 'Internationals House' in Bil'in - we were asked to sleep there overnight in case the IDF came to take the children away in the night, and confront them if they did. http://www.bilin-ffj.org/

Interests

So.
- Folk Music - playing, listening, dancing to
- Socialist and Feminist politics
- Cooking
- Clubbing/partying as much as possible and drinking - if you're asking, I'm dancing
- Lots of music, mostly music you can dance to, which is all music I reckon

Music, Movies, and Books

Music already mentioned I think, but I will add that musicians are especially welcome to get in touch.. I like all music, not in the kind of 'I'm not really bothered' kind of way but in the 'I really really like a lot of music and making lists scares me' kind of way.

Movies - I have a terrible passion for kitsch 80s and 90s popular films, like Ghostbusters. I also love musicals like Singing in the Rain.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I joined the people of Bil'in in their weekly peace demonstration to the Israeli partition wall and had tear gas canisters thrown at me by the IDF. Four weeks later the cousin of one of the friends I met there died. Amazing but also heartbreaking.

I've also descended an Alp (in Switzerland, Crans-Montana) in the snow on foot after losing my sledge. It wasn't advisable but was absolutely breathtaking.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you a tune on the penny whistle, a ceilidh dance, how to eat porridge with chopsticks, or how to talk to strangers.
