About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"Benedicto: May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. May your rivers flow without end" -Edward Abbey

ABOUT ME

I love the natural world. I'm attracted to those places where water meets land. Although I currently I'm in school studying cities, and the built environment, I think, perhaps, our civilization can best be understood when observed from outside. To use the cliche, I think it can be hard to see the forest through the trees.

Music has always been a big part of my life. I've played one instrument or another since I was very young, but I've really only developed my skills on the bass (upright and electric). I have played with numerous ensembles, from dixieland, bluegrass, folk, country and americana, to afrobeat, salsa, and bossa nova. I currently play with a indie rock group called Conveyor, and I encourage you to listen to our music (I think you'll like it!) You can listen to it or download it here: http://conveyor.bandcamp.com.

With regard to my sense of humor, there is nothing I enjoy quite as much as a good pun.

I always have Nutella in the house. Always.

PHILOSOPHY

bike to work, work to eat, eat to live, live to bike...ad infinitum

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I do a lot of traveling, but mostly I try my best to host as many surfers as I can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've traveled around a lot - mostly on tour with bands, but also just general vagabonding at times. I've hosted couch surfers quite a bit, and I'm always happy to help out more

visited 33 states (66%)

visited 21 states (9.33%)

Interests

My favorite thing to do is, without a doubt, to cook food with friends.

Also, I'm interested in science fiction, in political theory, in linguistics, and in escaping the city at every opportunity possible. I like to build things, and somehow, I love logistics.

Music, Movies, and Books

Repo Man, Martin Dosh, Moby Dick, respectively. Okay I can elaborate....

movies: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Breaking Away, Repo Man, Blade Runner, Rosemary's Baby, Wild at Heart, Alien, Salvador, Full Metal Jacket, 12 Monkeys, Bananas... and I love everything from Werner Herzog, Lars von Trier, and David Lynch. Almost everything.

music: Woody Guthrie, Charles Mingus, Cachao, Abner Jay, Bukkah White. And of course a ton of contemporary stuff. Although I don't really feel it is more accurate....this at least a more empirical log of my music taste: http://www.last.fm/user/nostatus

books: I love science fiction (and science fact). Actually, most of what I read is non-fiction. Peterson's Field Guide to the Birds East of the Rockies. Richard Feynman and Carl Sagan. Herbert (and Peter!) Marcuse, Jane Jacobs.

TV (and other shows): RadioLab, TED talks, Cosmos, Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, X-Files, and right now...Louie
