About Me

My name is Nour and with my husband Niklas we are planning to take 12 months off from our jobs in London to backpack around the world from April 2024.
Our itinerary will span through Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas

We are very excited about this adventure, but most of all we are really looking forward to meeting with locals whenever we can in all the places we will travel to, understand their culture, their perspective on the world and we would be very happy to share our own culture as well!
I can also cook a few Moroccan dishes and Niki is a professional schnitzel chef!

Once we are back in London, we will be very happy to welcome the friends we made across the world when it's their turn to visit us!

Kind wishes,
Nour and Niki

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As part of our 12 month trip around the world, we are hoping to meet and stay with locals whenever we can in all the places we will travel to. We want to understand our hosts' culture, perspective on the world and we would be very happy to share our own culture perspective as well!
I can also cook a few Moroccan dishes and Niki is a professional schnitzel chef!

I am very interested in learning songs and dancing from the countries we will travel to - and also wearing traditional clothes and trying the traditional food.

Once we are back in London, we will be very happy to welcome the friends we made across the world when it's their turn to visit us!

Music, Movies, and Books

I seriously love all types of Music, except maybe very heavy metal (but I love a few song from what I would call "gentler" rock eg. Muse, Placebo, System of Down - only a few like Aerials which is my favorite).

If I take a glimpse at my most listened songs of all times and lately:
- Nina Simone - wild is the wind
- London grammar - strong
- Dinah Washington - Cry me a river
- Fred Again - we've lost dancing
- Camelia Jordana - Facile
- Beatles - in my life
- Rema - Calm down
- Beyonce - Cuff it
- Stealers Wheel - stuck in the middle with you
- Ricchi E Poveri - Sara peche ti amo
- Abu - 3 daqat
- Juli - Geile Zeit
- Brenda Fassie - Vuli Ndlela

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have snorkeled with Manta rays in Nusa Penida in 2017
I have hiked a glacier in the south of Iceland, also in 2017

I have busked at the Sacre Coeur in Paris when I was 15 years old (I sang 'Zombie' from the Cranberries) and then also last year in London in front of the Tate Modern Museum (I sang 'Can't take my eyes off you')

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach:
- French and Moroccan Arabic languages and songs
- Moroccan cooking and spices / herbs knowledge
- Belly dancing (sort of)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Niki and I love Karaoke; we even have all the karaoke gear at home and often invite our friends for a karaoke party at home! I love singing so much that I already sang at many weddings (including my own!)

I can sing songs from various languages and cultures (French, Moroccan, broader Arabic - eg. Egyptian classical music and Lebanese music - English / International - but also a few songs in Hindu, Korean (I used to be a big fan of K-POP and Korean Dramas) and Japanese (mostly Anime opening theme songs :D)

I can cook a few Moroccan dishes with the right ingredients: Moroccan Harira (Very popular soup with a tomato base and chickpeas), Kofta (Minced meat with specific spices, onion, parsley and sometimes fresh mint), and Chicken Tajine (Chicken cooked in a specific Tajine sauce and with onions - for the best results we will need preserved lemons and olives "mes Lalla")

My husband is a trained ski instructor and has been on skis since he is 3 years old - although not sure we will visit ski destinations during our trip.

He cooks excellent Vienna and regular schnitzels, bratkartoffeln and great tiramisus (he has a secret recipe an italian friend from uni taught him and he never forgot it).

He is a big soccer fan and played for his local team for 20 years. He supports HSV - Hamburg Soccer Club - always loyal to them even if it's been a while now they are not doing so well and actually got relegated to 2nd division in the last years...

He has a great passion for whisky and can talk for ages about where / how they are made, different types and processes.
