About Me
Hey! I’m Dyon, short for Dionysus. Sometimes also known as Nathan or by my last name, Beers.
I’ve been nomadic since 2016 and have mostly traveled around North America by vehicle, although I spent this past summer backpacking around Europe by train. I’ve lived in an old Chevy Suburban I converted, a couple school buses, and ambulance, and have had a few stints traveling by motorcycle. I’m currently back on the bike, a wine-red Honda Shadow I’ve named Rufio.
I recently left a 20 year corporate career I’d felt increasingly misaligned with and am currently focusing on my writing and looking for opportunities to hone my hosting skills without actually having a home of my own to host from. Think hostel / retreat management essentially.
I’m warm, open hearted, deep thinking, and I love to laugh. I hope we get to meet!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When I had a house in Greenville SC I loved hosting all sorts of things. Couchsurfers, blue dances, themed dinner and movie nights, friend’s birthdays, board game and bonfire shindigs, etc.
I love connecting with other travelers and with those who desire to take a stand against our capitalist norms - like the CS community. When I was traveling in self-contained rigs I leaned in more to the vanlife crowd and communities like Boondockers Welcome / Harvest Hosts, but now that I am back to traveling without my own roof I’d love to get reconnected with Couchsurfing!
Interests
Stories! Whether in books, podcasts, movies, quality tv, or shared over a dinner table, I love to eat up a good story 😋 I also enjoy art, throwing frisbee, exploring walkable towns, and playing cards/games.
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Mr Nobody, Captain Fantastic, Hook, Dan in Real Life, About Time, Contact
Music: Eclectic jazzy instrumentals… Currently loving The Westerlies, Cosmo Sheldrake, and Slavis Soul Party
Books: Sapiens, Ishmael, The Alchemist, The Untethered Soul, Shantaram, also an avid reader of science fiction
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I spent the summer of 2017 motorcycling through the Canadian Maritimes and in Newfoundland. Probably the most physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging leg of all my travels, and also the one where I had the most incredible adventures with people who all started at strangers and ended as friends and even travel companions.
Teach, Learn, Share
Ever heard of laughter yoga? 😂 I’m a certified instructor!
