Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

Explore the Universal Languages, where speech and material are superfluous.

ABOUT ME

I am an experimentalist, multi-instrumentalist and soiree planner. www.artsestate.com.au
Next project: Civillised cabaret with story-telling and wine-tastings!

PHILOSOPHY

Tourists don't know where they've been, travelers don't know where they're going.
The traveler sees what he sees. The tourist sees what he has come to see.

Fear not that your life shall come to an end, but rather that it shall not have a beginning.
If life is a game, then there's no point playing it safe, cuz there's NO WAY you're getting out alive!"

If you're not happy today, with what you have...will you be happy when you have more?
e.g. How much is enough?....A little bit more? :P

Never tell them you can't do a thing. Get stuck in and have a go. By the time they find you've never done it before you're doing it! -Barry Crump

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

First Couch-surfing experience? - ABSOLUTELY INCRRRREDIBLE!

Ok, I thought....can strangers REALLY be this fantastic?!!? I could hardly believe how generous and enthusiastic my host was! . People just swarmed around him, he was so welcoming! - "My home is your home" he said, and his actions spoke exactly that for the rest of my stay. How much I'd LOVE to go see him again and return the favour somehow!

Saturated in exotic food, strange customs, strange language, potential photos everywhere! - Bliss!

NOTHING is keeping me from this project now! Hosts and guests have taught me, challenged me, been terriffic company. This is only the beginning I tell you!!!

I have to admit that in the beginning I had some preconceptions about what I wanted to see and do. I guess I had the mindset of a tourist. Well....THATS BORING! Now I have little plans, and my focus is geared towards PEOPLE...after all, isn't this the most rewarding way to give your time?

I've also become attached to the idea of EVERYONE being a host....not just in a couch-surf sense. Everyone helps eachother! Can we make that a world-wide thing?...geez it would be nice [understatement]...NOBODY loses!

Interessi

Anything I can experiment with becomes a hobby. Food...in particular, wine and cheese (I make them). Anything wierd....there's this fruit that can be used to make spaghetti (who said pasta doesn't grow on trees?)

I'm a COOKsurfer!!! - see:
http://www.couchsurfing.org/group_read.html?gid=228&post=1700352 (but of course, applied in Australia)

I love a good rush! (but not like: "Oh shit, I'm late!") Zorbing, white water rafting, caving, pushing comfort zones - opening us up to new perspectives (but I avoid saying open-minded...everyone says they are) I don't like speaking in cliche's. Please tell me if I do, cuz otherwise I'm probably not saying anything of much worth at all :P... but seriously

LESS TV, LESS COMPUTERS - unless reading articles or soaking in music of course :)

Musica, film e libri

Music: Tchaikovsky, Khachaturian, Kabalevsky, Rachmaninoff (I'm really passionate about Russian music). Sometimes with the real good-stuff, I'll pretend I'm the conductor...not weird at all if you walk in when I'm waving my hands around! (I'm sure everyone does it :P), Brecker Brothers, Herb Alpert, Walter Piston, Chaka Khan, Erica Badu, Earth Wind and Fire, Josh Groban, Michael Jackson of course

Movies: As it is in Heaven, Along came a spider, Carol, Ghandi, Into the Wild, American Beauty, Meet Joe Black... a few others, but I don't watch TV anymore...I don't learn enough for the time spent.

Books: Think and Grow Rich (Napoleon Hill), Cheese Slices (Will Stud), Emotional Intelligence (Daniel Goleman), A good nose and great legs [about wine] (Robert Geddes), Appreciating Assents (Jim Downs), Future Shock (Alvin Toffler), Salt - a world of history (Mark Curlansky)

Fairie Tale (Ramond E. Feist) but also Kine (Richard Adams), Life of Pi (Yann Martel), Calvin and Hobbes, EarthSea Quartet (Ursula de Guinn), Jurassic Park (Michael Crichton)...but I don't read Fiction anymore...there's too much good Non-fiction around!

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

Rolling down a hill in a tractor tyre! (We still have it!! wanna go?!?)
Eating a Durian ...Phew!! - the stench!
Wine/Cheese/Olive oil tasting with 12 couchsurfers and italians in Vicenza - (Boy was that a night to remember)
Becoming a member of a family in Norway who hosted me.
Living on a boat
Eating Roquefort-&-Walnut Gelato
Watching an 80-year-old Stravinsky conduct Firebird - (check it out on youtube! look at him smile!)
Built a bonfire in a beach cave at night in the middle of a storm, roasting chestnuts & marshmellows & burning insence.

MUSIIIIIC!!! I have a BMus in Performance, but although I knew I wanted to be an orchestral trumpeter before, I realised I HATED the idea of giving all my time to a piece of metal. My last concert was 20th March, 2011. I'm FREE!!....to learn ALL the other instruments and compose and sing and dance etc....

Many people have NO IDEA what its like to be a performer in an orchestra or the work-ethic involved. Sooo many people want it. You basically have to wait for someone to die before a position opens up...and then 50 people apply for it. You have to maintain your technique while waiting for an audition (Remember, no mistakes allowed up on stage). It's a prestegious title, and boy can it be rewarding, but it comes at a cost too. Some people don't realise that till they're already in it. Being an orchestral performer is just like any other job, except you just DON'T MAKE A LIVING unless you are the BEST!

There's a difference between a musician and an artist too. There's not much creative about being a musician (but it depends on your definition). Artists however, create! Conductors, composers, soloists...

I love world music, so if you have any favourites, I'd love to hear it! And food...I'm always looking for unusual foods. I can show you some of the Australian food and music. I'm always testing/tasting out potential foods in the bush, and I'm keen to collect the generations of knowledge on plant-use from hunter-gatherer tribes before it is lost! Re-establish some of the native cuisine, some of which was prolific before rabbits, sheep, goats, cows and cats came to Australia.

I love NATURE! Get me outdoors!! Soak up that Vitamin D and build a bonfire, or go surfing, or go out for breakfast, or catch some lizards, or taste everything!!!

I want to learn LIFE SKILLS:
Dancing, Teaching, Public Speaking, Problem-solving, Permaculture, Self-sustanence, Efficiency....and so on...
