Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To learn about the world and its people, by reading about then visiting the areas where history was made
ABOUT ME
A series of bizarre years resulted somehow in my status as a grad student at Cambridge University. Here, I row too much, read just enough, and work far too little. Every so often I feel the need to escape the academic bubble world and grab a few gasps of outside life: at these points I go travelling.
PHILOSOPHY
Today, we live in a world, where far more is possible than ever has been before. Lucky are we few who were born in this era, and yet rare are we who make the most of it. A quote by Epictetus summarizes my approach to things:
"First, decide who you would be. Then, do what you must do."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I met a couple of coach surfers while hostelling around Portugal, and decided that I should give it a go. While in North Carolina, I had my first proper couch surfing experience, staying with someone for three days. It was great, and I'm looking forward to doing more over the coming summer.

Music, Movies, and Books
Most the time I read books concerning History and International Affairs. I tend to find that as the picture begins to come together, reading about the real world is far more exciting than reading fiction. That said, I do tend to enjoy the 'classic' modern authors such as Salinger etc when I do read fiction.
Films I enjoy tend to be from two catagories: the classic Oscar variety (Beautiful Mind, Good Will Hunting, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Last King of Scotland) and the more Cult/Art House films (Pi, Waking Life, Requiem for a Dream).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Heard a musical tune played on someones fingers, through head phones attached to electrodes in their brain.
