About Me

I grew up in a rural area in north Malaysia, moved to Kuala Lumpur and stayed for 7 years for uni, and now I'm living and working in Cambridge, UK. My first CS experience was in Belgium with the nicest 'stranger' in the world - it blew my mind so thoroughly that it is now my preferred way of travelling. Buildings, history, parks and mountains are amazing, but they mostly don't compare to talking to/living with a local and experiencing a lifestyle that is miles different than your own .

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In Malaysia: I've hosted, walked around KL with CS-ers, and I occasionally join CS events. I tend to shy away from short meet-ups because they're short.

In the UK: I've only surfed so far.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In KL I used to get CS requests every other week, when I was unfortunately living a very busy life. In the UK I have not done much of it, perhaps you'd do me the honour, just get in touch.

Interests

I love to jog. By jogging I mean slowly, whilst perhaps exploring a new scenic route. Sometimes I do push myself to beat my PB, but rarely anymore.

I love nature, hiking, and wildlife, especially birds.

I also quite like eating! if you count that as an interest.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - David Bowie, B'z, Queen, Nujabes, Arcade Fire, Olafur Arnalds, Explosions in the Sky.

Books - The Remains of the Day, Jane Eyre, Night, Waiting for the Barbarians. Kazuo Ishiguro is my literary hero.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Went from a total couch potato to a 5k and then a 10k runner, to a half-marathoner who had a marathon-phobia for years, to eventually completing two ultra-marathons.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach spoken Malay (which is supremely different from book Malay!) and cute things you can say to Malaysians while travelling :)

If you're in science, I specialize in structural bioinformatics, specifically on protein structural motifs and domains.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share good food - I love to cook. I'm on here primarily to see your way of living, so that means I will be a good listener and a curious guest.
