About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel the world with just enough settling time to absorb the local culture. I'm currently in Beijing and so cannot host anyone. But, if you're in Beijing, happy to meet up!!

ABOUT ME

A gypsy-like tendency to keep moving, after pretending to settle down for 2-3 yrs. Always curious about languages, cultures, myths, food, blah. Shy around new people, playful when he gets to know them. A bit of a hippie, a bit of the book-reading, theatre-going type, a bit of a hiker, a bit of a lazy lounging-about type. Many little bits. Never has enough friends; seeks more of them from every corner of the world.

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live. Think through things, but understand that not everything can be logically understood. There's more than one version of the truth and they may all be right. Open up to people, show them your sensitive, hurtable side. Surprisingly, most will respect you for it. Some will become friends, some will take advantage. It happens.

Interests

fragments of poetry; people's amazing ability to overcome serious adversity, and make friends across deep divides; stories, myths, legends

Music, Movies, and Books

Mostly like slightly off-beat movies; not too far off the charts, though.

Taste in books change as I age. Liked the angsty J.D. Salinger, the philosophical expositions of Ayn Rand as a teenager, moved through a re-discovery of the classics. Am now a bit more fascinated by historical fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not really any one moment, or collection thereof. But sometimes when you're walking around, and you feel one with the environment, be it the city, or out in the wild. It's a feeling of quiet joy, and a keen appreciation of your part in the story of life. That is pretty nice.
