About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be Happy in all I do. Make progress everyday to make that dream come true.

ABOUT ME

I have been living in Arequipa, Peru for the past 4 years. I am an ex-pat from the States trying to make a life for myself here in South America. I enjoy taking pictures, playing the bass, experiencing new things and visiting new places. I also like a lot of boring things too!! I like to watch TV (any serial drama that I can get my hands on), go to movies, download new music that I never would have paid for and delete it if it blows and if I like it go to allmusic.com and discover more music from the same artists or their influences. For example, I discovered The Frames by watching Once. Another passion of mine is to study. I love studying something new, be it a new language, a computer program, photography, or something in my professional field (Strategic Management and Human Resource Management). Currently I am taking a distance learning class in Project Management!! So... yes I am a geek!!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a couch, it is available when I am at home, so mostly weekends or evenings after 8pm until 7:30am. I would love to take people on shoots. I know some great places to take pictures and since I love to take pictures too, it would be a pleasure to meet people and head out early to get some great light or stay out late to take night shots! Most people cringe at getting up at 5:30am... But i know that photographers (for hobby or otherwise) love the morning sunlight and can rarely get their travel buddies to accompany them!

I am also available for coffee in the evenings or a drink on the weekends. I was a traveller and still am when time allows, but I also have the perspective of a foreigner in Arequipa (maybe the best of both worlds?!?!)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I discovered this page recently. I hope to meet lots of fun and exciting people. For now I would like to ba host in any way that I can. Showing you the city, going out to take pictures, giving advice and if possible a couch. And one day when I am on vacation, I hope I can also sleep on your couch, or meet you for a coffee or go out taking pictures with you.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing view I have seen in my travels was along the journey from Chiclayo, Chic Peru to Yurmaguas, Peru. Chiclayo is the arid coastal desert and to get to the Amazon basin you must climb the winding roads to through the Andes. As you ascend the flat yellow sand turns to barren rock rock mountains. On our trip the sun went down somewhere in the vegetation-less foothills into the Andes. We woke up with rain coming in through the windows and knew we were no longer in the desert. In the morning we found ourselves in the high selva... a mountainous version of the rainforest rich with vegetation and humid warm air. The next day we took a colectivo from tarapoto to yurimaguas and this is where I was "awestruck". The mountainous jungle roads with switchbacks and steep fall-offs were quite adrenaline pumping but eventually we came around a corner and could see the view of the basin... in the distance you could see the mountains leveling off and there was nothing but green tree-tops to the horizon. The flattest I have seen. This view of the Amazon was by far more thrilling than any view of Machu Picchu! I was not expecting this view, in fact as we came around that curve i was expecting more curvy mountain road...
