À propos de moi
CURRENT MISSION
To figure out how it all works.
ABOUT ME
I am a dude who does not respond well to open-ended questions.
But I'll try.
I work as a librarian cataloging music and media for a major research library.
I'm also a saxophonist, flautist, amateur photographer, moviegoer, blogger, food enthusiast, Doritos inhaler, and general layabout.
I am all of these things and more.
PHILOSOPHY
Why do I live my life? Because it's a lot better than the alternative.
I mean that's obvious, right? "Cake or death?" Right??
Life is fun! There are pretty things to look at and eat and hear, and there are adventurous, interesting people all over the place who are strangely fascinated in the same way.
That sounds so simplistic, which is fine because my philosophy is basically that things to not need to be difficult and complicated. I think problems are generally not earth-shattering and people are generally good-intentioned (even if they're a little selfish.) All life requires is a good attitude and a little perspective.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres
Movies: I'll watch just about any movie except non-psychological horror. And a film can only have so many explosions before I start to wonder why I should be interested.
Music: This is a hard one. I like opera and orchestral music from pretty much any period. Favorite composers include Shostakovich, Messiaen, Ligeti, Mozart, and Chopin. In terms of "popular" music, I'm into anything that's a) not depressing and b) brings two or more things together like combining genres or incorporating music from another culture or time period. I also like happy pop music. Favorite genres include shibuya kei and ye-ye. Favorite artists include Pizzicato Five, France Gall, Fantastic Plastic Machine, Mika, Norah Jones, Regina Spektor, and The Pipettes.
Books: I read a lot and a wide range. Bookstores are my lazy Saturday destination of choice. I have a million books stashed away in my apartment. If you wanna surf, you can browse them yourself and assess my taste.
Enseignez, apprenez, partagez
I can maybe tell you some stuff about music. My knowledge is by no means encyclopedic and centers on Stuff I Like, but we can talk. I know a lot about classical saxophone repertoire if you're into that, which you're not. I also have tickets to a bunch of operas at the Met this season, so if you come at the right time and don't mind sitting next to me for 3 hours, you can be my +1. For free.
And umm... I'm pretty good at boring stuff like metadata, information access, and controlled vocabularies. If you are among the 1% of humanity that actually pays attention to that, we have one more thing to talk about.
In terms of what I want to learn... wow. Where to start? I'm a sort of budding amateur cook. We're talking... last few months since I moved to my current place with a human-sized kitchen. I'm pretty shit at it so far, but it'd be cool to learn to make something.
I'm also very interested in world music, so if you have or play any, that'd be neat.
