Overview
About Me
I graduated from college this May, and I'm now traveling and exploring the US, Peru, and Chile!
I love hiking, painting, writing, and adventure. I hope to do all of these and meet new friends in South America!! I also hope to improve my Spanish and cultural/historical knowledge. My very favorite occupation is learning.
There is so much about the culture of my country that I love: the intrepid spirit of many Americans, the music, the literature, and the movies. But with that being said, I know the United States has a politically complicated relationship with South America, and I am not proud of the United State's huge prioritization of military dominance and capitalism. I wish to travel with great humility and openness to the world that modern capitalism has created for better and for worse. I also hope to represent the best parts of the United States - curiosity, kindness, and ingenuity - as I learn from many wonderful people abroad.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like American jazz, classical music (I'm studying piano), and lots of types of rock. I'm currently reading a book of short stories by William Carlos Williams (I also really like Flannery O'Connor but the book is too heavy to carry around) and The People's History of the United States. My favorite movies and TV shows are The Wire, Reservoir Dogs, Blue Velvet, and Dr. Zhivago.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Instead of going to my first semester of college, I hitchhiked for two months through Maine, Nova Scotia, and Quebec, sleeping in the woods along the ocean. We met the most earnest and friendly people and enjoyed amazing views every. single. day.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am interesting in learning about history and economics (both of these are big reasons that I am coming to South America!), and I also have interests in art (I'm a painter), circus, and agriculture (I am especially curious to learn about local plants and practices!)
I can share what I know about these things in America and offer any help or company for projects you're working on!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am so excited to meet people who actually live in the places where I will be traveling! I will have a lot of questions and can also be a companion for any sort of adventurous thing. As a guest I am respectful. I am glad to help with cooking and cleaning. I also play the piano and can give you a lesson, or help practice English!
