CURRENT MISSION

To "turn it all around"

ABOUT ME

Update! Wow, it's been four years since I've really used couchsurfing, four years since my life-changing trip to Sweden and Denmark. I'm now 30 years old (but thankfully I don't look or act it ;)) and, here I am, back. Back to call again on the amazing generosity of the couchsurfing community to help me and my friend, Sarah, out on our upcoming (THIS Wednesday to Sunday :P) trip to Montreal, Canada. I really hope I'm blessed again. *fingers crossed*

Hey there! :) My name's Elizabeth, I'm now 26 years old and have always dreamed of travelling the world. Alas, I somehow found myself assistant managing women's clothing stores for three years after college in the same town I was born in and the most travelling I had done outside of Canada was, well, in the US (California, Las Vegas, Arizona, NYC, Washington DC, Virginia, Florida). Anyway, that all changed though went I quit my job and hopped on a plane to Sweden on May 10th, 2009. I started in Stockholm and work my way down to the south of Sweden where I visited distant relatives I had never met and places important to my family like the homestead of my great-grandparents. I made an unforgettable stop-over in Copenhagen, Denmark for my 26th birthday and then continued on up the other side of Sweden through Gothenburg, celebrated midsommer in Leksand and then returned back to Stockholm before the money ran out and I had to return home. It was the trip of a LIFETIME, fundamentally changing who I was for the better and providing me experiences and connecting me with people I'll never forget. Since coming back to Canada I have made family and friends my number ONE priority and am also now going back to school (a close number two on the priority list lol). But travelling is in my blood now and, though I don't know where or when I'm going next, I know that I am going. And that's what sustains me. I can't wait! :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Well I just finished reading "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert which, really, came along at the perfect time in my life and was a huge inspiration to me. Phil Keoghan's "NOW: No Opportunity Wasted" is another book I highly recommend for anyone looking for motivation to live their life the way they want to. Finally, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is an absolutely beautiful film I recently saw and is the source of my latest fave quote.

I joined couchsurfing after reading a great article titled "How To Travel The World For Free (Seriously)" --> http://thetravelersnotebook.com/how-to/how-to-travel-for-free/. It was simply my hope that I'd be able to extend my journey farther then I would have been able to on my own by seeking out the generosity of others. Well, I was BLOWN AWAY by how true the old saying "ask and ye shall receive" became. There's no doubt that travelling can be hard and there ARE moments where you're exhausted, lonely, scared and, hey, sometimes down to your last dollar but... in my experience, those moments are the "darkness before the dawn", the hard times you have to go through before you can witness the beauty of humanity, when your faith in it is restored and a stranger suddenly becomes a friend.
