About Me

I love nature and outdoor activities.

I'm passionate about traveling, I love to discover new people and places.
Usually the most interesting for me are the far far away trips where I get to interact with people that are different than me - different backgrounds, different culture, different approaches. I find it interesting to observe how they live and how they're thinking, how they're seeing life in general, what do we have in common and what is different. We are different yet so alike :) The basic needs are always the same.
And then I choose what I liked from them and integrate in my life.

I've felt how those kind of experiences changed me.
I met people who helped me understand more about the world and about myself.

I had one of the most authentic non-verbal communication with a woman in Zanzibar, she couldn't speak English and I could barely say a few words in swahili.
We spent more than one hour together: I helped her carry a staircase (looked heavy), then hold it for her while she climbed a papaya tree, then she invited me to join her. We ate the papaya together. She was looking at my hair and my skin, touched me... she seemed so curious about what was different.
No words, we just smiled and looked at each other and understood each other by gestures.
I realized then that people don't necessarily need to speak foreign languages to understand each other.
Paradoxically nowadays in corporations we are having so many so-called "Communication Courses" but we failed to see the human next to us, even when we are speaking the same language.

As most Europeans, sometimes I tend to get lost in my thoughts.
In several of my trips in both Africa and Asia some people came to me and asked:
"Where are you?" / "What are you thinking?".
I don't get that in my country, here we are so used to not being present in the moment.
Yet I met strangers who reminded me to be where I was, leave the worries away and enjoy the moment.

I was lost from my group in Peru, I felt sick because of the altitude (3500m+).
A local found me and asked:"Soroche?". Me:"si"
He understood why I felt sick, took a few steps and touched the grass, he got me some muna(wild mint) and asked me to rub it in my hands and smell, should help me breath better.
It seemed like from a movie back then, like this is not happening in real life.

In Oman I had no dollars left and in the airport they wouldn't let me pay for water by card because the price was very small and the fees for card payment were big. Euros were not accepted either.
A lady saw that and bought water for me. I tried to pay with Euros but she did accept it. She said just "It's ok. You are thirsty. Drink it. It's just water".

In Maldives I met people how made me smile all the time.
We are now friends on Facebook and still talk.
When I had to get back home, I was saying that I don't want to go, that is cold and snowing. One guy repeated to me so many times that "you need to enjoy everything, enjoy the snow, enjoy life" that he convinced me.
Being optimistic can change your life. He managed to change how I see my life now.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I would like to learn more about the place & the people from the locals.
I could use some help
- organizing and planing activities,
- recommendations
- what to do, what to see,
- where to eat and what,
- where should i book my optional trips and what should be a fair price for that
- understand how public transportation works(what is safe and what is not, which buses should i take from where, what kind of tickets are recommended, timetable)
