CURRENT MISSION

My current mission is one day to shoot THE PHOTO that tells a whole story; a short film the length of only one frame.

ABOUT ME

Film cameraman since 1959. DoP on a large number of films and television productions in Norway and abroad. One important person during my career has been the British director Peter Watkins, with whom I have shot three productions. I also shot large parts of David Lynch's last film; "Inland Empire". Of my later productions is "Paradiso", directed by Alessandro Negrini; a documentary shot in Derry, Northern Ireland. I'm currently working on a new documentary with Negrini in Italy. My latest major work as DoP; a feature film in Lithuania 2012; "Letters from Sofija" about the multi artist Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis (1875 - 1911)

PHILOSOPHY

Every person has the right to live his/her own life, practice one's own religion. Nobody is entitled to make important decisions on behalf of other human beings; family or not family. Personally I'm an agnostic.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Travels, so far in Mexico, Italy, France, Portugal, Turkey - and hosting. Not able to host at the moment because our place is temporarily packed with film gear after I closed down my production company. Correction; we still host at our summer place - we had two CS'ers from Lithuania there last summer - they loved it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first experience was 2008 in Mexico City, where my wife and I stayed with two guys in a lovely flat.
In 2009 we stayed with a guy in Rome, in his workout studio, and subsequently five days in a wonderful flat in Palermo. Our hostess here had previously stayed with us the year before, with her boyfriend. In 2010 we stayed in various places in Merida and San Cristobal in Mexico. In 2011 we celebrated my 70th birthday in Paris, staying 10 days with a wonderful CS host who has become one of our best friends. Easter 2012 we spent in Lisbon w/Sophia & Nuno - Easter 2013 w/3 different hosts, all excellent, in Istanbul.

Intereses

I'm a passionate photographer, especially fascinated by street photography.I'm also a cineaste, something that may seem natural; having spent 54 years behind a movie camera.

Música, películas y libros

Music is vital to me. Gary Burton, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny are a few of my "heroes". I like the movies of Pedro Almodovar, Inarritu, Ken Loach, just to mention a few - films made by people who have a message - a story to tell. I hate stupid films from the entertainment factory.

I am easily impressed with things like The Chinese Wall,
the Cheops Pyramide; things witnessing human achievements that go far beyond my ability to understand
