ABOUT ME

*** I am in Montpellier, Languadoc-Roussillon, France from 11 June to 7 July. CS seems to think I am in Paris because of the internet service I am using. ***

I am happiest when I live near the ocean - perhaps because my grandfather was a fisherman. I make performances, mostly a dance-theatre hybrid, and recently I've been testing the waters of performance art. I teach dance, improvisation/composition and creative process to college students. In April 2011 I finished my MFA at University of Michigan. It nearly killed me - but I am so grateful for the experience! I hope to begin a PhD in Performance Studies in 2012, so the in between months are time for exploration, discovery and adventure, starting with two months in France!

Before my MFA I lived in New York City for ten years, the last five in the beautiful Carroll Gardens neighborhood. What I miss most when I go away is the community of friends that the neighborhood endowed me with. Whenever I go back it feels like I never left.

The only thing I don't like about traveling is leaving my two amazing cats behind. Simon is an old dude, and the cat that people who hate cats tend to love. Cashel is a maniac - young, impetuous and full of love and trouble.

PHILOSOPHY

Everything around me is constantly changing - and I'm continually learning to navigate and adapt. The dance scholar Ann Cooper Albright said something I try to always remember: Replace ambition with curiosity. My best friend's mom would say: Ask the universe for what you need.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I'm a drifter, so I can't host, but would like to some day. When in Brooklyn - the place that feels most like home, I am happy to show people around. Meanwhile, I'd like to surf, meet new people and exchange ideas.

I love bad television, and indie romance flicks. I will read just about anything fiction, but am most drawn to coming of age stories or stories about women's life experiences. I'm picky about my non-fiction - it has to be really engaging. As for music, I love supporting local bands, have been increasing my appreciation for jazz, and can often be found listening to old school country (like Patsy Cline or Wanda Jackson) or some indie rock.
