About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

I have a good idea of what I want to do with my life - work in international education - but I have no idea where I'll end up doing it. I'm happy just about everywhere. I'm in the "exploring" phase of my life right now, trying different experiences on for size [then again, does anyone ever actually get out of that phase? - I hope not].

PHILOSOPHY

All these places feel like home. [Snow Patrol]

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love the idea of hosting and surfing and have done both a few times, but I *really* love all the CS get-togethers in cities around the world! Since I've been traveling alone a lot, it's a really great way to get to know both locals and fellow travelers and see another side of wherever I am.

Interests

people, international education, AFS, study abroad, languages, travel [what a shock on this site...], reading, bicycling, running, chilling and/or kicking it, bodies of water, good food and drink, Stephen Colbert, community events, festivals

Music, Movies, and Books

I've read a couple books by John Irving recently and I've become a fan. I love all the little details he mentions about the characters that may not necessarily have a lot to do with the plot but still humanize and tell more about the characters. That's one of my favorite parts about Y Tu Mamá También, too - when the movie pauses for a minute to quickly summarize the rest of a side character's life. I'm interested in people's lives, so my favorite books and movies are the ones that delve into those.

Music? Yes, please. [Current recommendations: ***Mimas***, a Danish "death indie" band that I bumped into in the street in Norwich, England, and ***Bon Iver***, from my hometown (and another project from Justin Vernon, ***Volcano Choir***)!]

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach English and German and maybe a few non-language things that I can't think of right now; I'd like to learn lots of other languages and to cook more exciting things; and I love sharing music, book, and movie recommendations!
