About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To step foot on icy Greenland and see the Northern Lights!

ABOUT ME

I take life as a journey to discover myself (still learning). I am a pretty positive individual, easy going, laid back and can be a huge procrastinator at times.

There is nothing more soothing to me than watching beautiful dancing or cycling freely by the beach or the countryside with the wind whipping in my hair!

I treasure friendships so much! I've learnt that there's something so touching about opening my heart to others and daring to be vulnerable.

PHILOSOPHY

Be honest and true.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting, hanging out at mamaks (Malaysian culture) and also getting to know fellow CS-ers that my friend Jolene introduces to me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed in Bali with Jacopo (the mafia guy haha) and with Mark (I do what I want!) & Jeremy in Chicago! I've hosted a few times, my first surfer was Nadia from Quebec in 2009! Followed by Simon & Carina (Austria), Carl (USA), Peter (Germany), Charlotte (Netherlands), Dmitriy & Olga (Russia), Audran (France), Nathalie (Switzerland), Katie & Lizzy (UK), Samantha (USA), Jess (USA), Jens (Germany), Sarah (Canada) & Gina (UK), Anne (Germany), Adrian (Canada), Martin (UK) & Maikha (Peru) and Nando (Spain) :)

Being able to meet people who have cultures worlds away from my own and yet share some similarities too is pretty damn exciting! The food in KL and the famed weekly night market near my place became ten thousand times more exciting when I got the chance to tour CS-ers through it :)

Interests

Playing pool, playing bridge, reading, hanging out for a drink with friends, food, snail mail, postcards, cycling, kayaking, volleyball, checking out bazaars filled with creative handmade stuff, watching theater plays, movies, watching So You Think You Can Dance or any amazing dances actually.

Music, Movies, and Books

Fav movies :
Edward Scissorhands, The Sound of Music, Inglourious Basterds, Big Fish, CRASH, Once, Moulin Rouge, District 9, Coraline, Slumdog Millionaire, Enchanted, The Prestige, About Time, The Journey, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Kate Winslet's, Johnny Depp's and Adam Sandler's movies. I've also been exposed to crazy wacky movies like Un Chien Andalou and Stanley Kubrick's Space Odyssey and Clockwork Orange. Not saying I love bizarre but I'm pretty much up for any kind of movie except horror (thrillers are not horror to me).

Fav Books:
Does Archie comics count? :) A Time Traveller's Wife tops my list for sure! The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. The Hunger Games trilogy (I could draw parallels from it to Malaysia's political system LOL). Harry Potter series. Agatha Christie mystery novels, anything by Neil Gaiman and so much more fiction. I can curl up with a book anytime.

Fav music:
I don't listen to radio much these days, instead I get introduced to new songs from movies, TV series and my favourite dance show So You Think You Can Dance. What results is a crazy mix of music from country to R&B to rock in my music bank heh. The combination of dance and music is just perfect :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I may not have done anything grand or seen anything like the seven wonders of the world but I believe there is something amazing in simple, small things.

I was given the opportunity to interview a US dance choreographer I admired - Wade Robson - right here in Malaysia! My hands were shaking as I jotted down notes of his replies to my questions. I have never been as thrilled or as nervous in an interview before! To me, that is the most amazing and most unbelievable thing I have done so far :)

Speaking to the son of the pilot who flew the missing MH370 flight, that was a surreal experience. Being sympathetic and yet trying to get an interview, it's a thin line between intruding and empathy.

As for travels, having set foot on Balangan Beach and just watching the waves crash on my feet in Bali, being splashed on by the waters of the Niagara Falls and having a two week road trip around Croatia with my best friends are all memories that I treasure.

Teach, Learn, Share

Able to teach and share: Mandarin and Malay phrases, how to cook simple Malaysian dishes, give tips for travel in Malaysia and Singapore and stories of the crazy stuff I have witnessed as a Lois Lane ;)

Wants desperately to learn: how to swim.

Croatia, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Myanmar, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam
