Über mich

CURRENT MISSION

To travel the world teaching Art and Ocean Sports. To empower everyone I meet to live healthy, adventurous lives and to unabashedly explore their own creative potentials.

ABOUT ME

I am an enthusiastic Fun-a-holic. I always have to be doing something, always on the move playing outside or creating something. I love everyone equally and with gusto. The more awesome the company, the more awesome the activity, whatever it is. I am addicted to live music and dancing, hiking, snorkeling and trying new things. For health reasons I frequently give in to fits of abrupt spontaneity and silly-ness, and as often as possible couple these characteristics with undirected adventuring and exploring. I also suffer from a VERY dry sense of humor and late night urges to Art. Random likes and loves: archaeology, sushi & sashimi, ancient wisdoms, live comedy, cheesecake, beach-fires & BBQ's, pugs, random acts of kindness, fundraising & event organizing, ted.com, anthropology, spiritual philosophical and religious studies, booze (sad but true), the muppets, sustainable living initiatives, conservation activities, speaking my mind, partying - scratch that; Celebrating.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that absolutely every doctrine has a kernel of truth, every person's opinion has validity and wisdom, and that we are even stronger together than we are on our own. Each person has a limitless depth of creative potential which can be tapped and applied, regardless of location, circumstances or resources.
Each person has the power to affect their own 'destiny', and direct the course of their life and the lives of others to joy and fulfilment. All we have to do is accept our AWESOMENESS! Be as you as you can be!

"When you do something, you should burn yourself completely, like a good bonfire, leaving no trace of yourself." - Shunryhu Susuki

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

What I believe I offer as a traveller and a surfer is an open mind, a non-judgemental personality, a respectful attidue, and an unquenchable excitement to connect with new friends in new places. I am a YES person - if you can dream it, it can be done. If you've forgotten your dreams, I can help you remember them. If you fall into fear that you can not achieve your dreams, I will help you! Call it a modus operandi, a raison d'etre, being a muse and helping rekindle peoples fire for life is what I do. Helping and witnessing people living their lives to the fullest is what gives me gusto. What are we here for if not to lift each other up and bare witness to the magic of each persons highest potential? And to travel :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am new to couchsurfing.org, but no slouch when it comes to hospitality; I've been a luxury hotel & wilderness resort caretaker and guest services rep for over a decade, and when I haven't been caring for commercial properties, I've been pet-sitting and house-sitting my way around coastal British Columbia, Canada all my life. I absolutely LOVE PEOPLE, ALL PEOPLE, and I can't meet enough of them!!! Whether I have been host to others, or been the guest in peoples homes, whether the bed has been 3 feet high and soft as a cloud, or a rustic mat in a tent in the back of the yard, each experience has been made by the friends I've met, the families I've become part of.

Interessen

I am passionate about 2 seemingly disparate things; Art and Outdoor Recreation. But somehow I have managed to weave these two things together with my 3rd passion, which is travel. I have worked with focused intent to turn my hobbies and passions into a career and now -HURAY!- I play for a living! As a day job/hobby I am an Ocean Sports Instructor, teaching introductory kayaking, Stand-up Paddling and Hobie Cat sailing to youth. In my spare time I am an art nut, creating and teaching classes on everything from how to make Sock-Monsters to how to build Didgeridoos. I have set out to travel the world teaching all my above listed favorite hobbies with the hope of empowering people to live healthy, adventurous lives and to unabashedly explore their own creative potentials.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I am a Post Apocolyptic Sci-fi nut - what a sub-genre eh? I love old clay-mation movies and monster movies and anything worthy of the great American Drive-In. (I used to work in the film indusrty and now I can't take modern movies seriously. I'm ruined!)

But I also love books that fall under the catagory of Inspiring, be they autobioraphies or practical how-to guides. If you are in the process of changing your life and looking for inspiration on how to do it or why you should, check out these awesome pieces of literature...
What Color is your Parachute by Richard N. Bolles
Worldwalk by Steven M. Newman
Woosdswoman by Anne La Bastille
Tents in the Clouds by Monica Jackson and Elizabeth Stark
The Story of B by Daniel Quinn
The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K LeGuine

As for music, I like it all, with a preference for all musica LESS North American. That may sound aweful, so please don't get me wrong; North America is a big, beautiful musical goulash which I have thoroughly enjoyed, and now my palate is piqued for anything new. And if I can witness it live, I'm in love!

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

I could list off countless memories or events, such as the day I hiked a 1500 meter mountain in 10 hours, or the time we hooked a sunken airplane on our boat-anchor in the middle of Desolation Sound, but you probably wouldn't believe me anyways ;) In all seriousness though, most of the moments in life that have left me awestruck are quiet, solitary experiences in nature, witnessing the majesty of sunsets or flocks of migrating birds in cold Canadian skies. These moments defy the most elegant poetry, and their magic is explained away in prose. Words defy me to explain a single awe-inspiring moment here impersonally on-line. If we ever meet one day, ask me again ;)

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Couchsurfing University - this is the coolest thing EVER!!! I LOVE teaching. I have my own program of therapeutic art based workshops that are primarily based on crafting with recycled products or what-ever is handy. I teach doll-crafting and Sock-Monster making, how to build didgeridoos, kytes, dioramas and mobiles, how to make your own prayer flags and magic wands, how to design your own tarot/wisdom cards and how to manifest your dreams through Intentional Collage. If you're not into arts and crafts I also teach beginners kayaking, Stand-up Paddle-boarding, Hobie-Cat sailing and industrial and wilderness first aid.
