Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy a good deal of fantasy and sci-fi on top of the regular literature student-type reading, but if you get me started on a discussion about books - oh boy do I get nerdy:)

Among movies, I like screwball comedies, some Woody Allen works, lots of a foreign movies, Mean Girls, the Truman Show, Hitchcock, and Pulp Fiction. I also think Katharine Hepburn was the best actress of the 20th century.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Tried some durian in front of my friends in Singapore and realized, to my big surprise, that I have the durian gene - meaning that I actually enjoy the fruit's taste. (If you don't know what durian is, it's a loud-smelling Asian fruit, notorious for its reputation "smells like shit but tastes like heaven." Unlike many Westerners, I actually do think it tastes pretty good.)

Also found myself once amid the gorgeous purple fields of Guilin's countryside (what I consider to be the Chinese Provence,) pennyless and without a return ticket, while I stayed in the small town of Yangshuo. Ended up getting back to Shanghai a week later - with a few new friends and newly acquired knowledge of the Chinese police.
