Hi, Hola, Hej! I’m Alexandra, formerly from Chisinau, then from Kyiv (Kiev), resident of Gotland, the best ever and the biggest Swedish island in the middle of the Baltic sea :)
I do like wild nature from early childhood; that is why I work in the field of Ecology and Nature Protection. I used to teach students as a Senior Lecturer in one of the oldest Ukrainian universities – Kyiv-Mohyla Academy; now I am doing environmental and social research in the oldest university of Sweden - Uppsala university. After I focused more on research, I miss the times of everyday communication with young unbiased ‘minds’ and discovering the world of nature together with my students...
Besides the serious academic stuff, I go into all types of outdoors: hiking, skiing, cycling, climbing, kayaking, mountaineering, and alpinism. I am fascinated with any mountains on Earth, wild forests, and the salty smell of the sea.
I play guitar and flute - folk Ukrainian and Irish melodies; I like singing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like discovering any country from the inside; any “all-inclusive” commercial tourism services cannot acquaint you with specific features of local life. All hotels are more or less the same everywhere, and I am pretty much fed up with this stuff under my working routine (except the recent covid years, I should admit).
Couchsurfing provides the opportunity of live communication with people, whose work does not include providing accommodation services.
I regard every human as a separate Planet, unique and beautiful; people are the best worlds to explore, and while traveling I feel myself pretty much as a space explorer, meeting all of you ;)

I can teach you how to play folk Ukrainian, Polish, Irish, and Swedish melodies with my back-flute;
I can teach some basic songs in Russian / Ukrainian, and play guitar for you;
Cooking Moldavian and Ukrainian national dishes is always an option also ;)
