About Me
Sharing and caring ...i am a mother of two beautifull and creative grown up daughters, living alone now with my cat Nimu, my bodyguard....who thinks he is the king of the castle......:-)
I live in the nicest neighbourhood of Amsterdam, in the old south, aka de Pijp, very central with many bars, shops and restaurants and ofcourse the famous Albert Cuypmarket a 50 meters away.
I love to party once in a while, progressive, deephouse and techno are my favorites. Since corona times i joined spotify and i feel the richdom of having acess to so many diffrent kinds of music.
Arthouse movies. documentaries and world cinema are another passion of mine, i see as many as i can in different cinemas and arthouses thanks to Cineville.
My house is usually kind of disorganised, fits with the adress i live, have you ever heard of the famous painting of Jan Steen ? ;-). My balcony is the place where you can find me whenever the sun is shining, till late in the evening....always nice music in the background, candles,... can't live without....
For the rest i love Amsterdam and always can give you nice tips where to go, i'm very much aware of all the nice events and places,..my second love is Berlin .
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I like to meet people, young and older, men and women, from other countries and cultures and share thoughts about how we live our lives, enjoy life to the fullest. Everybody is welcome in Amsterdam, i think being a host is showing the social face of my city.
I believe in helping as much people as i can, i guess it's my mission in life ;-) ....especially the newcomers, i got to know many of them in the last years and i like to hear their stories, give them some advice whenever they need it, help them to learn the dutch language, etcetera
It makes me very happy to meet people from different countries all over the world and talk about their way of life, their dreams and visions and also it made me so much more aware of how lucky i am to be born and raised in such a wonderfull city as Amsterdam, where i have everything i need and also my dear family closeby . My daughters moved out of the house some years ago, but still love to pass by .
The reason i started hosting in 2015 was an awfull message that i read on cs....then i realised hospitality is all about trust and respect for eachother and in the first place about offering a safe place, especially to women.
Interests
Meeting new people, learning about other cultures and countries realising we are all human, speaking other languages, being helpfull in suggesting nice places or events to visit, share my love for Amsterdam with other people.
I work for the Dutch council for refugees for 23 years now, lately also as on online volunteer for the Red CrossWhatsApp Helpline, my grandfather came from Vienna via the Red Cross and was sent to Holland to grow up with foster parents.....it makes me aware of where i'm coming from and how lucky i am to have been born and raised in this wonderfull country.
