Overview
About Me
I have moved to Japan from the U.K. in August 2017 and I am working as an English language teacher in Japanese schools.
I am from Sheffield in England and lived in Glasgow in Scotland for 6 years.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Coachsurfing is an amazing way to learn about culture and people. Couch surfing is all about sharing with others. It gives me new and unique experiences. I have stayed with some wonderful and kind people while travelling. I have now just started to host guests and now I want to share as a host.
Interests
I have various interests and hobbies. I am big into music (although I can't play anything). Recently I have been listening to : Bonnie Prince Billy, Car Seat Headrest, Mitsume, Anderson Paak. I really miss living in a big city and going to see live music. But country side life has benefits.
I often go cycling around Nagaoka and Niigata. I have been bicycle touring (with my tent) many times when I lived in Scotland and I want to start touring in Japan. I also often go hiking (and camping). For example this summer I spent 4 days and nights hiking and camping in the 北日本アルプス, which was amazing.
Because I now live in snow country I have become interested in snowboarding. I had never done it before coming to Japan, and had zero interest, but I started last winter and loved it! If you want to stay with my during Niigata's crazy winter, please do!
I have a big interest in culture, politics and history. Before coming to Japan I knew very little about the country but I love learning from people (on Couchsurfing), and I want to learn more. Couchsurfing is a great way to share culture, with food, music and knowledge.

Books
I am a big reader and love getting recommendations from other people. Some amazing books I have read recently - The Sister Brother's by Pattrick DeWatt; Mother Night by Kurt Vonnegurt; The bright edge of the world by eowyen Ivey; Poor Things by Alastair Gray; Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami, to mention a few!
Music
I like all sorts. I love the Clash, the Cure and New Order. I'm also really into British and Irish folk music. And house and techno!
